About the role:

This role sits within Group Tax and is responsible for providing trusted tax advisory and compliance services to both Origin and APLNG.

 

As a Tax Manager, you’ll partner with the business to advise on complex direct tax matters, support structuring and transactions, and help manage tax risks.

 

The role also contributes to tax compliance and works closely with other teams to drive value and continuous improvement.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

 

  • Operate as a business partner and technical income tax advisor for commercial and finance teams within the Origin Group, providing tax advice/input on projects, transactions and contracts.
  • Manage tax structuring and due diligence for M&A, divestments, and corporate restructures under the guidance of the Senior Manager and/or Head of Tax.
  • Assist with the review and lodgement of Direct Tax compliance deliverables including income tax returns, PAYG instalments, and R&D tax incentive claims.
  • Support tax effect accounting (TEA) processes for financial reporting, including deferred tax and provisioning as required.
  • Liaise with external tax advisors and service providers to ensure compliance obligations are met effectively.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives for the Group Tax Team.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and external authorities such as the ATO.

 

Skills & Requirements

 

  • Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in Australian corporate income tax, with exposure to tax compliance and advisory within a large corporate environment and/or Big 4 firm.
  • Degree in Accounting, Commerce or Law, with relevant professional qualification (e.g., CA, CPA, CTA or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience advising on M&A transactions, due diligence, contract negotiations, and complex income tax issues.
  • Experience managing income tax returns, PAYG, R&D tax incentives, and familiarity with transfer pricing and cross-border tax issues.
  • Exposure to tax effect accounting is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to work with external tax advisors and manage stakeholder relationships.
  • Familiarity with tax and accounting systems (e.g., SAP S/4 HANA) is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in the energy and resources sector is desirable.
