Job purpose:

  • The Senior Technical Specialist / Engineer is a strategic software development and systems analysis expert supporting compliance systems within the Automotive OEM and Finance sectors.
  • This role is central to designing, developing, and maintaining robust trade compliance solutions that align with evolving regulatory standards and enterprise operational goals.
  • Working within a highly regulated and fast-paced environment, the specialist will collaborate with the TCS IT team and business stakeholders to evaluate, build, and enhance software platforms that ensure compliance readiness.
  • This includes performing detailed technical analysis, identifying system modernization opportunities, and delivering scalable, enterprise-grade solutions.
  • This role is ideal for a technically driven professional who thrives on bridging legacy systems with modern development frameworks while supporting complex compliance and financial operations in an Automotive OEM environment.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead full-stack software development initiatives, primarily using .NET, DB2, and SQL Server, to enhance and maintain trade compliance and financial systems.
  • Analyze existing platforms, including legacy environments using COBOL and JCL, to support data migration, system integration, and modernization roadmaps.
  • Translate complex business and regulatory requirements into secure, high-performance software solutions integrated with broader OEM and financial operations.
  • Architect and implement compliance systems that interface with enterprise tools and support real-time regulatory data processing.
  • Collaborate with Honda IT, operations, and compliance teams to ensure technical solutions align with business strategies and government mandates.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle—including design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Contribute to system architecture design, codebase modernization, and the adoption of development best practices and DevOps / Agile methodologies.
  • Legacy System Evaluation & Modernization Planning: Lead comprehensive assessments of existing legacy trade compliance platforms to uncover system gaps, inefficiencies, and compliance risks. Develop a forward-looking modernization roadmap that aligns with regulatory standards and business growth objectives, with a focus on transitioning to advanced solutions.
  • Solution Implementation Leadership: Drive the end-to-end implementation of an approved solution as the enterprise’s core trade compliance platform. Oversee planning, configuration, and deployment activities while partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure the solution is tailored to specific compliance workflows and integrates effectively with broader enterprise systems.
  • Technical Advisory & Solution Optimization: Serve as a trusted technical advisor, offering deep expertise in modern trade compliance technologies. Provide hands-on support for system configuration, troubleshoot technical challenges, and guide stakeholders in maximizing system capabilities to enhance compliance performance and user experience.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, acting as a trusted advisor and innovation advocate across technology and compliance domains.
  • Innovation & Continuous Process Optimization: Proactively identify opportunities to enhance trade compliance operations through emerging technologies. Advocate for the integration of advanced analytics and automation to streamline workflows, boost efficiency, and mitigate compliance risks.
  • Regulatory Alignment & Governance: Oversee the implementation of approved systems to ensure full alignment with current trade compliance regulations and global best practices. Continuously monitor regulatory developments to proactively adapt system configurations and maintain compliance integrity.
  • Leadership in Technical Design: Guide the design and evolution of trade compliance system modules, ensuring scalability and sustainability. Leverage hands-on experience with modern platforms and development methodologies to drive forward-thinking, resilient solutions.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science / IT or equivalent years of relevant experience
  • 7 or more years in IT Solution Design & Delivery: Demonstrated success in designing and implementing IT solutions, with a strong focus on modernizing legacy systems to streamline and strengthen compliance operations.
  • Strong expertise in .NET development, DB2, SQL, and software integration within enterprise systems.
  • Extensive Trade Compliance Systems Expertise: Deep experience working with trade compliance platforms, databases, and enterprise-level systems, particularly within complex OEM and Finance legacy environments.
  • Application Landscape Versatility: Proficient in managing and transitioning across on-premises, cloud-based, and legacy systems, ensuring smooth adoption of modern compliance technologies.
  • Manufacturing Sector Business Analysis: Strong foundation in business analysis within manufacturing, enabling effective alignment of compliance system modernization with operational goals.
  • Requirements Definition & SME Leadership: Proven ability to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), translating business needs into actionable requirements that support the successful transition to SAP GTS.

Other Job-Specific Skills

  • Experience with legacy mainframe technologies, including COBOL and JCL, is a significant plus.
  • SAP Proficiency: Skilled in SAP environments, with hands-on experience supporting trade compliance initiatives and system migration projects a plus. 
  • SAP GTS Knowledge: Familiar with SAP Global Trade Services (GTS), especially in the context of transforming and optimizing trade compliance functions a plus. 
  • Ability to prioritize workload, work independently and within team, train junior staff.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to work well in a cross-functional, matrix management environment with a highly collaborative, team-oriented approach to problem solving.

Workstyle:

  • Onsite at the Honda office location at Marysville, OH. One fixed remote workday per week may be possible with prior departmental approval
