About the Department
We are seeking a motivated and technically proficient IT Infrastructure Engineer with hands-on experience in enterprise storage systems and VMware virtualization. The successful candidate will support the design, implementation, and maintenance of storage and virtualized environments that are critical to the organization's IT operations. This role requires a solid understanding of storage architecture, virtualization platforms, and data management practices to help ensure infrastructure stability, scalability, and performance.
ITS is a 24x7 information technology shop. Applicant must be willing and available to perform duties as required by the job. This may include occasional work on nights, weekends and holidays as necessary.
Position Duties
1. Storage Architecture, Implementation, and Management
- Assist with the implementation and administration of enterprise storage systems, including SAN, NAS, and iSCSI platforms.
- Monitor storage performance, capacity, and utilization, escalating issues as needed and supporting resolution efforts.
- Maintain documentation on storage configurations, usage patterns, and support procedures.
2. 2. Virtualization and Cloud Integration
- Configure and manage virtual machines in a VMware environment, including ESXi hosts and vCenter.
- Assist with the setup and maintenance of virtual networking and clustered environments, including virtual distributed switching & network engineering experience.
- Support the integration of on-prem systems with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.
- Monitor performance of virtual systems and assist in capacity management and tuning.
- Support converged and hyperconverged infrastructure platforms (e.g., VxRail), with working knowledge of differences between these systems and traditional chassis-based SAN architectures.

- Configure and maintain virtual distributed switching within VMware environments; apply foundational network engineering principles to optimize performance and segmentation.
3. Backup and Disaster Recovery
- Support backup operations and maintain recovery procedures for both storage and virtual systems using Commvault HSX as our enterprise backup platform.
- Assist with periodic testing of backup jobs, validating recovery processes, and documenting results for audit and compliance readiness.
- Monitor and manage cloud-based backup targets, including integration with AGP where applicable, to ensure availability and performance of offsite recovery options.
- Collaborate with senior staff and security teams to align data protection practices with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
4. Automation and Operational Efficiency
- Use scripting tools such as PowerShell, PowerCLI, Aria Automation, Bash, or Python to automate routine infrastructure tasks.
- Support efforts to improve system reliability, performance, and repeatability through automation.
- Assist with reporting on storage and virtual environment metrics to help identify improvement areas.
5. Technical Support and Troubleshooting
- Respond to tickets and service requests related to storage and virtualization technologies.
- Assist in troubleshooting technical issues and documenting solutions for recurring problems.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to help resolve high-priority incidents outside of standard business hours, ensuring timely response and continuity of services.
6. Collaboration and Team Coordination
- Work closely with other infrastructure, networking, and application teams to support deployments and ongoing operations.
- Contribute to team meetings, planning discussions, and cross-functional initiatives.
- Escalate complex issues to senior engineers and follow through on recommended actions.
7. Learning and Knowledge Sharing
- Stay informed on new tools and best practices related to storage, virtualization, and cloud technologies.
- Share knowledge with peers and support a culture of continuous improvement.
- Participate in training opportunities and support documentation efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
Five (5) years of experience as an IT Infrastructure Engineer with a focus on storage and VMware virtualization.

Other Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate, CompTIA Server+ or Cloud+, ITIL Foundation, or vendor-specific credentials (e.g., Pure Storage, NetApp, Dell EMC, Commvault)
- Experience using enterprise ticketing tools such as SMAX, ServiceNow, or Microsoft Service Manager
