Position Overview:
The Data Analytics Intern supports our reporting and data collection work with ongoing projects such as Revive I-5 detour monitoring, implementing a Federal SMART Grant, and other work as assigned. They support collecting usage data on our roadways, double-checking our metrics, crafting new data pipelines, and building out custom reports as needed. This is an opportunity to apply data management and reporting skills to the field of transportation operations.

Position Duties

10% Supports our data collection and reporting workflows
30% Reviews and crafts new data pipelines using Python or other methods
30% Reviews and crafts new data dashboards using Power BI or Tableau
10% Monitors current data pipelines and dashboards, assessing quality and reliability
10% Coordinates data collection efforts with multiple teams
10% Gathers input and builds requirements for updating reporting from multiple teams.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: 
Open to all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in an accredited 2-year or 4-year educational program.

Preferred Areas of Study:
Geography, Engineering, Community Environment & Planning, Urban Planning, Computer Science, Information Science, Mathematics, or a related field.

Undergraduate majors must maintain a minimum of 2.0 GPA throughout the internship.

You will be successful in this internship if you have:
•Interest in transportation operations and program evaluation
•Some experience with Python, Power BI, or Tableau.
•High degree of accuracy and attention to detail, 

Desired Qualifications:
•Knowledge and experience with managing datasets in Python.
•Knowledge and experience with creating dashboards in Power BI or Tableau.
•Background in technical report creation and/or program evaluation.

Other Qualifications

Internship dates: 
Start/ End Dates: November 2025 – December 15th, 2026.

Schedule:
Intern will work up-to 20 hours/week while school is in session, up to 40 hours/week during school breaks. Work hours can be scheduled between 8am and 5pm Monday - Friday. May work weekends, may work evenings.


Salary:

Undergraduate students will be paid $21.78-$21.78 per hour.

Hybrid Work:

Interns are expected to report to work onsite in Seattle consistent with departmental in-office minimums and as operational needs require for the duration of their internships with the City of Seattle. Therefore, interns are expected to have a Washington State address and reside in Washington State at the start and for the duration of their internships with the City of Seattle.
