The Role
Cameco is seeking a well-rounded and motivated individual to join our mine engineering team. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in concrete, backfill, and civil testing, and demonstrate a commitment to safety and efficiency in all aspects of their work. Reporting to the senior mine engineer, you will perform a variety of mine technician duties both underground and on surface, as well as in the office. You’ll work independently and collaborate effectively with coworkers to plan and execute tasks. This role also involves regular interaction with technical, maintenance, mine operations, process, and site services teams.
In this role, you will:
- Provide quality support for surface crushing operations, concrete production, and batch plant activities, including particle size distribution analysis and calculations.
- Develop, test, and modify concrete and shotcrete recipes to meet operational requirements.
- Assist in the setup and development of a surface laboratory to support surface crushing campaigns and concrete sample testing.
- Cross train other mine technicians to perform surface testing procedures.
- Provide backup coverage for underground surveying, including conducting drone flights as needed.
- Prepare monthly survey reports for surface stockpiles.
- Create technical drawings to support both surface and underground work as required.
Required:
- Technical diploma in mining or a related field
- Five or more years of hands-on experience with concrete and backfill mix design, as well as aggregate, rock and soil testing
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered
- Proficiency in MS Office and 3D design software such as Deswik, AutoCAD, or Vulcan, with strong 3D visualization skills
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across teams
- Work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft
Recommended:
- Experience in surface and underground surveying, mine design, and geotechnical monitoring
- Proficiency in underground surveying techniques
- Familiarity with long-hole drill and blast mining methods
