About the opportunity

 

As an alternative medical dispute resolution service under the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 and the Wrongs Act 1958, Medical Panels play an important role in the fair assessment of medical disputes, hearing around 4,500 referrals each year and producing binding decisions that have a significant impact on injured workers and claimants.  A Medical Panel consists of Members, Governor in Council appointments, who are selected by the Convenor of Medical Panels or a Deputy Convenor for the purposes of responding to a medical referral where there is disagreement or uncertainty about aspects of an injury or medical condition.

 

Specialist staff are employed by WorkSafe to assist in the administration and management of the operations of Medical Panels, and provide assistance to facilitate the proper function of individually constituted Medical Panels.

 

The Doctor Liaison Officer is responsible for delivering strategies to promote equality, diversity and inclusion within the Panel membership in accordance with Victorian Government policy.  The Doctor Liaison Officer is also responsible for contributing expertise and project thinking on a range of special projects aimed at improving Medical Panel’s service delivery.  The role will work to build strong networks and meaningful connections with key stakeholders including representatives of Victoria’s medical and academic communities.  The successful incumbent will:

  • Understand the purpose, scope, risks and approach to the medical workforce recruitment and work towards the project outputs including contributing to and refining communications of relevance to the key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of a range of recruitment strategies to promote equality, diversity and inclusion within the Panel membership and embed these strategies in the recruitment cycle.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with senior representatives of Victoria’s medical and academic community to promote the role and function of Medical Panels.
  • Engage new medical practitioners into the Medical Panels’ medical workforce through effective networking. This may include connecting with senior representatives from peak bodies, medical colleges/associations and universities.

This position requires occasional availability for after hours and weekend work to support training sessions, events, and other ad hoc operational needs.Medical Panels is an operational environment.  Office attendance is required during all training for this role. Hybrid work, as per WorkSafe’s policies, will commence upon successful completion of the training program.

 

About you

 

To be considered for this position, you must demonstrate an ability to interpret, communicate, and provide advice on policies or procedures affecting medical practitioners.  You will have experience working in a medical environment and be comfortable communicating with Doctors and Allied Health professionals.  You will have intermediate skills in the suite of Microsoft Office applications and be comfortable using Excel for reporting purposes and production of pivot tables.  Experience with Power BI will be highly regarded, as well as Tertiary qualifications in business or Allied Health.
