General Function:
- Provide general assistance as determined by the department.
Responsibilities
Duties of Position:
Assist the HVA Program faculty and staff in the preparation of student activities and maintenance of the lab which includes the following duties:
Maintain the HVA lab organized and clean daily.
Identify safety hazards such as equipment malfunction, damaged tools and repair as needed.
Assist in Monitoring students while they perform their laboratory assignments and ensure they are following the proper safety protocols.
Assist faculty in setting up laboratory systems, equipment and trainers for students to perform their hands-on assignments as scheduled.
Under the direction of the Department Chair/coordinator and lab technician, maintain the program equipment, tools, testing instruments, and supplies.
Check all testing instruments, equipment and trainers daily and repairs as needed. Check the toolkits and testing instruments to confirm that they are safe to use.
Assist staff when performing the inventory of the tools and supplies used in the program.
Perform clerical assignments, such as making copies, filing documents, maintaining records, assisting with reports, revisions, and other duties as assigned by the department chair/coordinator.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other departments to provide information and support pertaining to the HVA Program activities.
Participate in division and program meetings, program workshops, information sessions, recruitment and special events.
Qualifications
Education Requirements:
To apply for this position, you must be a current Harper College student, enrolled in at least six credits per semester fall and spring (three for summer)
Experience Requirements:
Must be a current HVAC student. Must have general knowledge of Microsoft software such as Word and Excel. Have excellent customer service and communications skills (oral & written), work independently and in a teamwork environment/setting. Must be available for evening and weekend rotating schedule, and on-call work.
Must be fluent in English. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis, lift 100 lbs. occasionally, and work in industrial environments, including extreme temperatures with continuous walking, reaching, bending and/or kneeling. Must be available for evening and weekend rotating schedule, and on-call work. The student must be courteous, have an outgoing, positive attitude and be a team player.
Schedule Information: Will determine schedule based on student's availability. Must have some availability to work during the following hours:
Monday 10:30 am - 9:00 pm
Tuesday 10:30 am - 9:00 pm
Wednesday 10:30 am - 9:00 pm
Thursday 10:30 am - 9:00 pm
Friday 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Saturday 8:00 am - 1:00 pm
Maximum hours per week: 20 hours
