Job Summary
Ursa is looking for a skilled Data Engineer to join our team! There is a lot of cross-pollination here at Ursa. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse team of highly-skilled developers, solutions engineers, data scientists, and even our customers, working on a variety of projects. There are no egos here - we are looking for the best ideas and are eager to hear your input!
The ideal candidate will bring experience in a wide variety of data-driven solutions, including data pipeline development, data warehousing, ETL processes, database design and optimization, and big data technologies.
This position will sit within the Platform Analytics Team reporting to the Director of Platform Analytics. You will work closely with other members of the Platform Analytics and broader Technology, GIS Operations, and Solutioning teams.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines to process large volumes of satellite and geospatial data
- Implement and optimize ETL processes to integrate data from various sources
- Develop and maintain data warehouses and data lakes to support analytics and machine learning initiatives
- Collaborate with radar engineers, data scientists, solution analysts, and other stakeholders
- Ensure data quality, reliability, and security throughout the data lifecycle
- Implement and maintain data governance policies and procedures
- Optimize database performance and query efficiency
- Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements
- B.S. in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related STEM field
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering or similar role
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)
- Strong programming skills in Python
- Familiarity with big data technologies
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS
- Knowledge of data modeling and database design principles
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience working with remote sensing data, especially synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data, geographic information systems (GIS), and/or spatial statistics/analysis
- Familiarity with satellite imagery and remote sensing concepts, in particular synthetic aperture radar
- Experience with geospatial databases such as STAC
- Knowledge of machine learning and data science workflows
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Sigma)
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Argo workflows)
Location
- We are headquartered in Ithaca, NY and have a remote workforce in other locations
Compensation
- $90,000 and $120,00 based on experience and qualifications
