Dane Street, a nationally recognized Independent Review Organization (IRO) and leading provider of Utilization Review (UR) services, is expanding our expert physician panel. We are actively seeking Board-Certified Orthopedic Spine Surgeons licensed in New York to perform independent medical reviews on a flexible, remote basis.

This is a non-clinical, contract-based opportunity ideal for surgeons looking to earn supplemental income while maintaining their clinical practice.

Position Overview

  • Specialty: Orthopedic Surgery (Spine Focus Preferred)
  • License: Active, unrestricted New York medical license required
  • Employment Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
  • Work Location: Fully Remote / Telework
  • Compensation: Per-case basis (average case review takes 15–20 minutes)
  • Scheduling: You set your own availability and case volume
  • Start Date: Onboarding and training completed in under 1 week

Key Responsibilities

  • Review treatment requests and determine medical necessity
  • Evaluate appealed cases and deliver impartial, evidence-based decisions
  • Provide detailed written reports—no direct patient care involved
  • Utilize Dane Street’s secure, intuitive online portal for all casework

Qualifications

  • Board Certification in Orthopedic Surgery (Spine subspecialty preferred)
  • Active, unrestricted New York Medical License
  • Ongoing clinical practice required
  • Strong analytical and written communication skills
  • Ability to apply clinical knowledge to guideline-based review processes
