The Summer Resident Assistant (RA) is a graduate student staff member within the Office of Residential Life who reports to the Assistant Director of Residential Life. The Summer RA supports a safe, welcoming, and engaged residential community in Munras Housing during the summer term. This role focuses on guest and resident support, community development, policy enforcement, emergency response, and administrative project work in preparation for the academic year.

The Summer RA serves as the primary on-site and on-call residential staff member during evenings and weekends throughout the summer. They provide leadership, troubleshoot concerns as they arise, and collaborate closely with the Assistant Director of Residential Life to ensure smooth daily operations and a positive residential experience.

Core Responsibilities

The Summer Resident Assistant is responsible for:

  • Orienting residents and guests to Munras and the MIIS community, policies, and community expectations
  • Fostering an inclusive and respectful community environment throughout the residence hall
  • Communicating, upholding, and enforcing all MIIS and Residential Life policies
  • Responding appropriately to student concerns, emergencies, and crisis situations
  • Accurately documenting and reporting all incidents in a timely and professional manner
  • Serving as the on-call staff member during assigned evening and weekend hours
  • Troubleshooting facilities, behavioral, and community concerns and escalating issues as necessary
  • Supporting Residential Life operations and project work in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Residential Life

Work Schedule and Hours

  • Work up to 12–20 hours per week (depending on number of positions offered), including:
    • Monday–Thursday: 8:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
    • Friday–Saturday: 10:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.
    • Additional or adjusted shifts as assigned, based on summer group occupancy and community needs

Residential and Community Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-move-in room inspections and complete all associated documentation
  • Perform community rounds at least twice per night, engaging with residents and guests and identifying policy or facility concerns
  • Report and follow up on maintenance or safety issues as appropriate
  • Facilitate community-building opportunities and participate in intentional resident interactions at least once per week
  • Support resident and group check-ins and check-outs as needed

Administrative and Project Support

  • Assist the Assistant Director of Residential Life with:
    • Office tasks and daily administrative needs
    • Summer projects and special initiatives
    • Preparation for fall move-in and the upcoming academic year
  • Maintain timely and accurate records, reports, and communications

Emergency and On‑Call Duties

  • Serve in an on-call capacity during assigned hours
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies, student concerns, and crisis situations
  • Coordinate with MIIS Security, emergency services and campus partners when necessary

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

Must be a currently enrolled MIIS graduate student with a graduation date of December 2026 or after and be in good academic and disciplinary standing

Must be eligible to work on campus in accordance with institutional and federal employment policies

Must be available to work 12–20 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and on‑call shifts

Must be available for the entire summer employment period

Must live in assigned on‑campus room in Munras Housing upon appointment

Must attend and successfully complete mandatory RA training

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, exercise sound judgment, and uphold community standards

Ability to respond calmly and professionally to emergencies and crisis situations

Ability to complete administrative tasks accurately and on time

Prior experience working with student populations (preferred)

Benefits

The summer RA will have the room fee waived and will be paid $16.90/hour.
