CUSTODIAN
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Performs routine unskilled and semi-skilled manual work in custodian and labor activities. Work is performed within established procedures under both written and verbal instructions. Responsible for cleaning break rooms, restrooms, windows, and any other task assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Sweeps, mops, clean windows, dust, take out trash, clean bathrooms. This duty is performed daily, about 25% of the time.
2. Move furniture, partitions, equipment, communications cabling, and other items as necessary to clean floors. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.
3. Operates floor care machinery including but not limited to vacuums, and extractors. This duty is performed daily, about 15% of the time.
4. Follows safety practices and procedures. This duty is performed daily, about 15% of the time.
5. Ensures that machinery and equipment are properly maintained. This duty is performed daily, about 15% of the time.
6. Adheres to safety and label instructions with all chemicals and cleaning agents used in their duties. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.
7. Maintains a general working knowledge of various chemicals. This duty is performed weekly, about 10% of the time.
8. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum requirement; general educational background without high school completion, plus 0 to 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out simple multi-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with limited variables.
INITIATIVE AND INGENUITY
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Under immediate supervision, performs general assignments of work, with periodic checks of performance by supervisor.
DECISION MAKING
Performs work operations that permit infrequent opportunity for decision-making of minor importance, and which would only affect the operating efficiency of the individual involved to a slight degree.
MENTAL DEMAND
Slight mental demand. Operations requiring little attention and repeated successively at short intervals or non-repetitive, but of such a nature as to require little directed thinking.
PUBLIC CONTACT
Occasional routine contact with people outside the organization. This would include contacts with suppliers, mail service, etc.
EMPLOYEE CONTACT
Contacts of little importance and usually with immediate associates only. Requires only ordinary courtesy to avoid friction in relationships incidental to working with others.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Outside working environment, wherein there are extremely disagreeable working conditions most of the time (e.g. hot mix paving in the constant sun).

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; frequently exposed to vibration; and occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, wet or humid conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
