GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
A Quality Assurance (QA) nurse evaluates nursing practices within a department to help maximize efficiency and optimize patient care. The QA nurse is to maintain a professional Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license, Emergency
Department competency and provide direct patient care to the assigned population. The RN will use the nursing process and follow established scope of practice as outlined by the Texas Board of Nursing. The RN complies with
the established standards of practice, policies and clinical guidelines reflective of evidence-based practice as outlined by Driscoll Children’s Hospital. The nurse contributes to creating an environment that is patient focused, family
centered and is designed to provide continuation of care and patient transition management. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized and appropriate care to the patient population served. Must have a working knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status. As well as interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their needs. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to
provide appropriate age specific safety measures, equipment usage and communication skills during interaction with customers, patients, and families, including teaching.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Calling patients/families and discussing results and follow-up
- Communication with physicians regarding results, additional orders, follow-up
- providing reports and maintaining records related to quality assurance and regulatory standards
- Reporting to committees, councils, and leadership
- Filing quality data as required
- Attendance of meetings involving department /hospital performance improvement (pi)
- Tracking and trending qa/pi measures
- Other assigned tasks
EDUCATIONS
- BSN Preferred
EXPERIENCE:
- Years as an Emergency Department RN
