Description
O’Hagan Meyer LLC, a national law firm with more than 440 attorneys and 26 offices, is seeking an experienced, business-minded Director of Human Resources to lead the Firm’s HR function from its Chicago office. This leadership role requires 7+ years of HR experience in a law firm or comparable professional-services environment, with the judgment, discretion, and operational discipline needed to support a sophisticated multi-office organization. The Director will serve as a trusted advisor to Firm leadership, attorneys, and administrative professionals; establish consistent HR practices across the Firm; and lead initiatives related to employee relations, performance management, professional staff development, policy, compliance, investigations, HR operations, and organizational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- HR strategy and leadership: Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with Firm priorities, advise leadership on workforce and organizational matters, and promote consistent HR practices across 26 offices.
- Talent and employee experience: Partner on professional staff recruiting, onboarding, engagement, development, retention, succession planning, and performance management.
- Employee relations and investigations: Advise on complex employee matters, conduct or oversee investigations, manage disciplinary and separation processes, and support a respectful, high-performing workplace culture.
- Compliance, policy, and risk: Maintain compliant HR practices across jurisdictions, update and communicate policies, manage employment documentation, and exercise sound judgment with confidential information.
- HR operations and reporting: Oversee HR systems, records, payroll and benefits coordination, office-manager support, and HR metrics that inform leadership decisions.

Requirements
- 7+ years of progressive HR experience in a law firm or comparable professional-services environment required.
- Experience supporting a large, complex, multi-office organization.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR compliance, employee relations, investigations, performance management, disciplinary processes, terminations, and severance matters.
- Demonstrated ability to advise senior leaders on sensitive personnel matters and translate HR data into practical recommendations.
- Experience developing HR policies, programs, systems, and processes across multiple locations.
- ADP or comparable HRIS/payroll systems experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; advanced education or HR certification a plus.
- Excellent judgment, discretion, communication, organization, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
- Willingness to work four days per week in the Firm’s Chicago office.
