We are searching for a highly collaborative and commercially astute Senior LPG Trader to join our ambitious Petrochemicals Team at PetroChina International London (PCIL).
Based in either London or Rotterdam, you will report to the General Manager of Petrochemicals, and will collaborate closely with the Trading, Refining and Global PetroChina teams to manage PCIL European and African LPG trading operations, encompassing both physical and paper transactions.
You will be responsible for developing an executive trading strategies, optimising trading books and driving results that will contribute to the growth of our business in the LPG Sector.
Current State of Play
The business has already developed a solid presence from being active within the wider Refined Products international trading markets for several years across a few of our subsidiaries including Houston, Singapore, Japan, and China. Having established a firm portfolio, we see huge potential to grow our trading book, developing non-US Cargos to deliver back to Asia.
Therefore, we require an experienced Trader with demonstrable experience maximising revenue generation to produce significant positive PnL to help us reach the next level by improving our trading flows, and supply, increasing our overall trading capabilities, particularly on the cargo side.
Ideally, you will have significant exposure and working capability managing negotiations processes and driving decision-making, i.e., preparation, identification and evaluation of potential sources of new business by leveraging trading flows, refining asset production flows, and PetroChina’s global footprint/ platform for maximum synergistic opportunities. The successful candidate will need to be a self-starter, have an entrepreneurial solution-focused approach, and can communicate effectively.

Key Responsibilities
- Analyse global and regional LPG markets, track price movements, and identify market opportunities for profitable trades.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, and consumers, ensuring the best possible trading terms.
- Develop and implement hedging strategies to manage exposure to price volatility using financial derivatives pursuant to company policies.
- Identify new trading opportunities within the European, African & Turkish market and beyond, negotiating and structuring deals to expand the trading portfolio.
- Ensure efficient management of the supply chain, from procurement to final delivery, while optimizing costs.
- Maintain full compliance with local and international trading regulations, reporting standards, and ethical guidelines.
- Monitor market trends, supply and demand dynamics, and geopolitical factors affecting LPG, frozen and pressurized cargo, and related products.
- Work arbitrage options and structure deals with other PetroChina entities to share the risk and the reward on a fair basis.
- Work closely with internal teams, such as logistics, risk management, and compliance, to ensure smooth trade execution and adherence to company policies.
- Track market movements and manage risks associated with price volatility, credit, counterparty exposure, and logistics complexities related to frozen and pressurised cargo.
- Provide market insights and trade reports to senior management, with particular attention to cryogenic and pressurised markets.
What we’re looking for / Skills that will help you in the role
- In-depth trading experience in the LPG market (including Propane, Butane), with a demonstrable focus on European, African and global markets, ideally in a physical trading environment.
- Proven track record successfully generating revenue / growing a derivatives trading book in a sensible and enduring way, effectively leveraging capabilities.
- Deep understanding of commodity markets, trading regulations, LPG fundamentals, products, grades, qualities, geographies, and environmental influence on the market.
- Solid analytical and numerical skills with the ability to assess market trends and make data-driven decisions.
- Programming skills (e.g., SQL, Python etc.) and experience of utilising large data sets is advantageous.
- Excellent negotiation skills with a proven track record of closing complex transactions.
- Confident commercial risk-taker with conviction for commercial strategies and frameworks, including derivatives trading and hedging techniques.
- Solid knowledge of typical trading counterparties and a strong network.
- Understanding of price exposure, risk profiles, all trading instruments and technical trading including establishing the necessary risk management frameworks.
- Previous work experience in a small, high-performance team with a collaborative approach, can-do attitude.
Please note: This is a full-time, permanent position with the job based in either Charring Cross, London or Rotterdam, Netherlands. The role is available to be worked in a hybrid capacity of 4 days in the office / 1 day from home.
