Job Description
TITLE: Middle School Food Service Worker – Mane Line Breakfast/Lunch
REPORTS TO: Director of Food Service
JOB GOALS:
To prepare and serve nutritious, high-quality meals that meet USDA guidelines while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment. To support student health and learning by contributing to a positive dining experience and promoting healthy food choices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
- Prior food service experience within a school setting is preferred.
- Must have knowledge of food ingredients, recipe conversion and portion control.
- Ability to run a register with accuracy and efficiency.
- General knowledge and ability to utilize a computer and google suite.
- Excellent customer service skills required.
- Ability and passion to interact positively with children and other staff.
- Available for at least 7 hours every school day and training prior to the start of the school year.
- Must have reliable transportation to work.
- Must be able to lift up to and including 40 pounds.
- Must be able to perform repetitive work duties.
- Must be able to stand for the entire scheduled shift.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up the dish room in preparation for breakfast and lunch.
- Cook breakfast items and prepare breakfast for the following day. Sort any leftovers from the previous day; wrap, freeze and label items as needed.
- Clean kitchen areas after completion of breakfast being served.
- Calibrate thermometers and take food temperatures as needed.
- Prepare and cook lunch meals according to schedule.
- Cook hot vegetables for students served for each period.
- Assist with dishwashing as needed.
- Rotate and stock items in the coolers and freezers with help from the kitchen leader.
- Complete order guide for items needed to be delivered.
- Complete paperwork to count all servings, prepared and served for the daily production schedule.
- Keep the kitchen area clean including the cooking equipment.
- Wash hands and follow all sanitation and safety practices set forth by the Allegheny County Health Department.
- Complete item counts to ensure production records can be kept accurately.
- Perform any and all duties as assigned by the Food Service Director.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Approximately 7 hours per day (Monday-Friday 7:00 AM–2:00 PM) / 5 days a week during the school year.
Rate is $14.09 per hour for the probationary period of 45 working days; followed by the regular rate of $17.61 per hour after successful completion of the probationary period
EVALUATION: The Food Service Director will evaluate performance of this job.
