Job Description
TITLE: Elementary Teacher – Kindergarten
REPORTS TO: Elementary Principals
JOB GOALS:
- To design and deliver a flexible and dynamic Kindergarten program that is responsive to the individual needs, strengths, and interests of all students
- To cultivate a student-centered classroom environment that nurtures curiosity, collaboration, critical thinking, and personal growth
- To motivate pupils to develop skills and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary school education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability
- To establish good relationships with parents, caregivers, and with other staff members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate
- Elementary Education certification
- 3.0 or higher QPA
- Proof of ongoing professional or educational experience
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Technologically proficient and open to continued growth with instructional technology.
- Ability and desire to build strong, respectful partnerships with families, colleagues, and the wider school community.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches the assigned academic subject(s) to pupils in a classroom, using the approved course of study adopted by the South Fayette Township School District.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials which provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Designs and differentiates lessons using data and formative assessments to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Fosters an inquiry-based approach to learning through project-based, real-world tasks.
- Promotes the integration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) concepts through experiential learning opportunities.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Collaborates with peers to write curricular units using the Understanding by Design framework and participates in associated training and professional development.
- Integrates innovative instructional technologies to engage students and enhance instructional practices for students.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional, safe learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
- Maintains ongoing communication with families to share progress and strengthen the home-school connection.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
- Maintains professional competence through staff development provided by the district and incorporates the techniques into everyday instruction.
- Maintains professional competences through self-selected professional growth activities.
- Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
- Supervises students during non-instructional times as assigned, ensuring student safety and well-being during the assigned work day.
- Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district and state testing procedures.
- Uses assessment data to make informed instructional decisions and promote student growth.
- Contributes to school-wide initiatives, curriculum design, and continuous school improvement efforts.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
- Participates in school-based teams, faculty committees, and extracurricular activities as needed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the South Fayette Township Board of Education and the South Fayette Education Association.
EDUCATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the building principal and communicated to the superintendent for review.
