Job Functions:

The Community Donations Manager helps build the pipeline of donors to Metropolitan Ministries. Primary responsibilities include cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with new and existing individual, corporate, schools, faith partners, and other donors to provide in-kind commodities needed for individuals and families receiving services through programs at Metropolitan Ministries. Responsibilities also include managing and overseeing in-kind giving programs, not limited to collection drives, virtual wish lists and registries, and direct contributions. The Community Donations Manager will lead, manage, and motivate Community Donations Coordinator, Seasonal Community Donation Associate(s), and volunteers/interns in community donations responsibilities, including scheduling collection drives, data entry, donor acknowledgement, and collection drive events support.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • DONOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, RELATIONSHIPS, AND DRIVES & IN-KIND STRATEGY SUPPORT: 
  • Manage portfolio of in-kind and drives donors provide donor/customer service and develop donor relationships (includes making phone calls, sending emails or notes, scheduling meetings, sending follow-up solicitations for in-kind support, applying for donation request programs, and collaborating with the Advancement and Volunteer Services teams); support growth and conversion strategies, coordinate stewardship of in-kind donations with financial donations, further engage in-kind partners through recognition programs and volunteerism, deeper financial partnerships, and special events; support and ensure timeliness and accuracy of donor in-kind acknowledgement letters for meaningful stewardship and extend personal cultivation and appreciation of major in-kind and drive donations where appropriate. Oversee and manage Community Donations Coordinator and seasonal staff in these and other community donation responsibilities as assigned.
  • Support strategies and plans to raise needed in-kind commodities to offset the annual operating budget, including maintaining seasonal cycle for proactively recruiting in-kind donations, securing collection drives, updating virtual wish lists and registries, and overseeing initiatives for direct contribution of food, toys, hygiene items, baby products, and other needed items; oversee, manage, and collaborate with Logistics team on community barrel placement for effectiveness and drive success. Overall seek and research innovative ways to increase in-kind support, drive engagement, and build in-kind supply inventory in partnership with Logistics team, and assist with updates to in-kind and drives marketing materials based on changes in in-kind needs as necessary and reported by Logistics team and inventory management. Oversee and manage Community Donations Coordinator and seasonal staff in these and other community donation responsibilities as assigned.
  • CROSS-FUNCTIONAL TEAM COORDINATION, MAJOR DRIVE EVENTS, AND HOLIDAY PARTNER SUPPORT: 
  • Manage and coordinate all drive efforts externally and internally, including communication with donors and affected Ministries’ departments. Oversee and monitor collection drive schedule for all operational pick-ups in partnership with Logistics Team and partner organizations on behalf of Metropolitan Ministries for customer success and achievement of annual goals.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership, departments, and other internal teams to provide leadership, management, coordination, and partnership for key drives-related and program events, including holiday drives, major media drives, and other annual events.
  • Work collaboratively with Director of Volunteer Services and Community Donations and internal teams during the holiday season to identify and develop new and existing holiday partner relationships through cultivation and stewardship.
  • DATA, REPORTING, DOCUMENTATION, AND SUPPORT: 
  • Track cultivation and stewardship of donors, including oversight of moves management system for in-kind donor communication. Support documenting all donor in-kind gift transactions following current procedure, as well as donor contact in donor database. Actively review and update procedure documentation for drive donor treatment, strategies, and drives and in-kind gift standards. Review and present contact/action reports when requested. Provide or present progress updates in support of ad-hoc, daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements. Support cross-functional teams in other tasks, including tours, presentations, donor-focused luncheons, personal donor visits, and other donor events.
  • CULTURE AND ETHICS:
  • Demonstrate a passion for the mission, vision, and guiding values of Metropolitan Ministries. Work in a cooperative manner with staff, volunteers, and collaborative partners to achieve community engagement and organizational goals. Provide full disclosure to prospective/existing donors in all communications to ensure their informed decisions in response to appeals for their support. Adhere to industry, organizational, and donor policies and restrictions such as code of ethics, confidentiality, gift acceptance policies, restricted gifts, government regulations, etc. Clarify, monitor, and implement the donor instructions by ensuring that expenditures are appropriate and documented properly in the organization’s financial records when applicable. Meet personal goals, actively contribute to the achievements of the team, support departmental KPIs, and work cross-functionally and collaboratively; support organizational goals as stated in the annual plan. Support the holiday center operation as directed.
  • INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE:
  • Continually expand personal nonprofit fundraising knowledge by staying abreast of national, state, and local trends and laws for fundraising in general and related to in-kind gifts, drive support, general gift support, fundraising and nonprofit development and support. Participate in regular Cross-functional team, Direct Report team, and All Staff meetings.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

Friendly, customer service with data entry experience and telephone or outbound sales experience preferred. Desire minimum Bachelor’s degree, or commensurate experience in customer service, relationship-building, or other relevant field, and minimum 2 years of successful nonprofit, development experience preferred. Supervisory experience strongly desired. 


Skills Requirements:

Excellent written communication skills. Excellent oral skills, including phone presence. Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Ability to plan and organize work and handle job-related matters in a professional manner. Critical thinker and problem-solving and good time management skills are necessary. Must be able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines. Computer and office equipment literate. Prefer demonstrated experience with CRM database. Web-based research tools and Microsoft Office products knowledge required, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Must be able to work independently and as a team player. Attention to detail is required for Essential Responsibilities outlined.


Requires heart for ministry and comfort working with poor and homeless families and individuals. Requires understanding of poverty, a high degree of maturity, strong inter-personal skills, and the ability to work with low socio-economic and diverse populations facing crisis situations in a professional and diplomatic manner. Knowledge of community resources available to homeless population. Must demonstrate maturity and sensitivity to issues of faith, culture, and other sources of diversity. Ability to work as part of a team within a multi-disciplinary framework.  


Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time. Ability to walk and climb stairs and to lift 20 lbs. Physically able to work in outdoor/temporary shelter environment considering the local climate and its normal fluctuations. Physical, emotional, and spiritual stamina to handle job-related issues and stress.  


Other:

Must pass applicable pre-employment screening and demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Ability to accommodate a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends, and particularly, but not limited to holiday months (October-December).
