SCHEDULE: 40 hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., additional hours/days as needed, including some holidays. Requires on-site availability.
LOCATION: 444 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA and other sites as needed. Eligible for limited telecommuting when appropriate and approved by supervisor.
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
The Associate Director of Workforce Development will provide supervision and leadership of the Workforce Development team at Pine Street Inn, a program that provides on-the-job training and employment training, supports and placement to adults experiencing, or formerly experiencing homelessness using a Trauma Informed Care approach. At any given time, there are between 40-60 active trainees in the programs. The program serves individuals from diverse backgrounds, circumstances, and age groups. The Associate Director supports the WFD Director with program and outcomes, including, but not limited to, for the Food Service Training Program (FSTP) and Housekeeping Training Program (HKTP).
The Workforce Development mission is to provide training and access to employment opportunities through education, skills building and community connections. Our vision is that people with histories of housing insecurity or homelessness are reconnected with employment and income as a launching point for stability in all aspects of their lives.
The incumbent is responsible for providing administrative oversight to staff; supporting staff so that they can create and maintain a respectful atmosphere that empowers trainees with a host of barriers to employment, to reach their highest level of independence and self-sufficiency, and reintegrate to the community.
Along with the Director of WFD, the incumbent will oversee the job training program curriculum offerings and service delivery model, to ensure the provision of high-quality support services using a trauma-informed framework. The Associate Director will also support the Director with the development of policies, procedures for the training program. The Associate Director will need to be a self-motivated individual with solid organizational and communication skills, and capable of project management. This position requires a great deal of tact, diplomacy, and creative problem solving in order to maintain our positive working relationships with our stakeholders: staff, volunteers, referral partners, trainees and guests and the community at-large.
Requirements
Education/Training:
Required:
- BA/BS Education and training (or equivalent experience in workforce development), curriculum/instructional design and/or adult basic education, or a related field
- High degree of cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with diverse people and situations.
Preferred:
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness with complex disabilities and facing significant barriers.
- Proposal and grant writing experience
Knowledge/Experience:
Required:
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with unhoused individuals or similar client population
- Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships with external agencies and resources
- Ability to create and pilot new program initiatives in response to data trends
- Extensive knowledge of workforce development principles, theories, and practices, especially as relating to vulnerable populations and populations with significant barriers to obtaining and sustaining employment
- Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, implement plans, and meet deadlines
- Ability to create and maintain reports for program management, partners, and funders
- Ability to create and deliver presentations further to managing or extending relationships with funders, external partners, and internal program management and leadership.
- Experience in creating and conducting workshops, developing presentations, and project facilitation
- Deep understanding and creative problem-solving mindset with regard to addressing the vocational barriers affecting vulnerable adults, including mental health and/or substance abuse issues, homelessness, chronic unemployment, lack of education, housing instability, and other barriers.
- Must be adept in using Windows 2010 programs with strong data entry skills
PREFERRED:
- Three (3) years’ experience providing employment and training services to homeless and chronically homeless adults
- Prior experience in behavioral health field, working with adults experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders
- Experience and training in Trauma Informed Care
- Lead staff in consistently delivering services that emphasize dignity, respect and fairness in all interactions with trainees and all those supported by Pine Street Inn.
- Leading and Managing Change: Experience implementing change within a program or department.
