Description
The AWS Supply Chain Finance team is looking for a System Development Engineer to design and build scalable automation infrastructure that transforms manual financial processes into efficient, self-service systems. You'll architect solutions using cloud platforms and modern engineering practices to improve operational excellence, reduce costs, and enable our finance and business partners to work with greater velocity and less operational burden.
In this role, you'll work directly with business stakeholders to understand operational pain points, design technical solutions, and build end-to-end systems that combine multiple technologies to deliver optimal business outcomes. You'll own the full lifecycle from design through deployment and operations. While you'll maintain some existing automation solutions, the primary focus is building next-generation infrastructure aligned with our strategic direction toward cloud-native and AI-enabled automation.
Key job responsibilities
Build Automation Infrastructure
• Design and implement scalable automation systems using cloud platforms and modern development practices
• Build workflow orchestration and data processing solutions for financial operations
• Develop integration solutions that connect financial systems and enable seamless data flow
• Build monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions to ensure system reliability
• Research and prototype AI-enabled automation solutions aligned with our strategic roadmap
Drive Operational Excellence
• Own the operational health of automation infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance
• Maintain and support existing automation solutions
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and operational readiness discussions
• Implement best practices for testing, deployment, and incident response
• Document architectures, runbooks, and operational procedures
Collaborate Across Teams
• Partner with business stakeholders to analyze existing processes and identify automation opportunities
• Work with partner teams to integrate automation solutions with existing systems
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members
• Communicate technical decisions and trade-offs effectively
Innovate and Improve
• Identify opportunities to eliminate manual work through automation
• Research and evaluate new technologies and approaches
• Continuously improve system reliability, cost-efficiency, and performance
• Share knowledge and best practices with the broader team

Basic Qualifications

3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust

Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development life cycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations

Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems, or experience in development or technical support

Experience writing and publishing technical documents or equivalent

Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
Preferred Qualifications

Experience building services using AWS products

Experience utilizing AWS cloud solutions in a DevOps environment

Knowledge of database systems and SQL

Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology

Experience in tax, finance or a related analytical field, or experience in building financial and operational reports/data sets that inform business decision-making

Experience working effectively across cross-functional teams and partnering well with people at all levels within an organization
