Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced FinOps Lead / Manager to drive cloud cost optimization, financial governance, and operational efficiency across our cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in cloud platforms (AWS or Azure), advanced financial analysis capabilities, strong executive communication skills, and the ability to independently deliver results under pressure.
This role is critical in shaping our cloud financial strategy, establishing cost governance frameworks, and partnering with engineering, finance, and leadership teams to ensure efficient cloud spending and improved gross margins.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Cost Management & Optimization
- Be part of the end-to-end FinOps function for the organization.
- Analyze cloud usage patterns, cost anomalies, and spend trends to identify optimization opportunities.
- Implement right-sizing, workload optimization, purchasing commitments (RIs, Savings Plans), and storage optimization strategies.
- Establish cost governance policies and enforce tagging, budgeting, and accountability frameworks across teams.
- Build automated reporting for cost allocation, forecasting, and spend tracking across business units.
Financial Planning & Reporting
- Create Gross margin reports (Weekly/ Monthly/ Yearly)
* Develop and maintain cloud cost models, budgets, and forecasts. - Partner with Finance and Engineering to create detailed monthly/quarterly spend reviews with actionable insights.
- Prepare high-quality executive-level dashboards and presentations summarizing cloud spend, cost drivers, risks, and savings achieved.
- Provide visibility into unit economics, gross margin impacts, and cost-per-service metrics.
Data Analysis & Insights
- Perform advanced data analysis on cloud billing datasets using Excel, Power BI, SQL, or similar tools.
- Identify cost spikes, unused resources, and long-term savings opportunities using data-driven models.
- Build frameworks for cost attribution and showback/chargeback.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Work independently and drive initiatives with minimal supervision.
- Partner with engineering teams to integrate FinOps best practices into design, deployment, and scaling strategy.
- Influence senior stakeholders—Engineering Directors, Product, Finance, and C-level executives.
- Lead cost optimization programs and track KPI improvements across teams.
Process & Governance
- Establish an internal FinOps roadmap and maturity framework.
- Ensure adherence to cloud cost governance policies, tagging standards, and operational hygiene.
- Build automated workflows for anomaly detection, alerts, and cost controls.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 10+ years of total experience, with at least 4–5 years in Cloud FinOps or cloud cost management.
- Strong hands-on experience with one cloud platform—AWS or Azure preferred.
- Deep understanding of cloud billing constructs: EC2, S3, RDS/SQL, Storage classes, Networking, Data Transfer, Commitments (RI/ SP), etc.
- Very strong FinOps and cloud cost optimization expertise.
Knowledge of SaaS cost modeling and gross margin optimization. - Exceptional Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and reporting/dashboard skills.
- Strong data analysis skills using SQL, Python, Power BI, or equivalent tools.
- Excellent executive communication skills—able to simplify complex topics for leadership.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, and deliver results under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving, financial analysis, and strategic thinking capabilities.
- FinOps Certified Practitioner or Analyst (preferred but not mandatory).
Optional / Good to Have
- Experience with FinOps tools like CloudHealth, Cloudability
- Experience working with distributed engineering teams.
