Manufacturing Engineer (CNC Milling Group)
Starting Base Salary Range of $85,000 to $115,000 (DOE)

Areas of support include new product development, process development and sustaining efforts in manufacturing. This is a hands-on role where you’ll collaborate cross-functionally to relentlessly explore improvements, new processes, new materials, and new technologies that make Leupold the world’s choice for sporting optics.
As a member of the Manufacturing Development Engineering (MDE) team, you’ll support initiatives tied to new product development (NPD) and ongoing production. At its core the MDE team is the engine for manufacturing technology and innovation. This includes the constant search for opportunities to provide step changes in manufacturing capability and efficiency. In this role you’ll have an opportunity to drive key projects in the areas of process efficiency, automation, process control, variability reduction, incoming and outgoing material characterization, and equipment definition by understanding process challenges, opportunities, and limitations.

What You’ll Be Doing as a Manufacturing Engineer:
- Consult on engineering projects related to new product introductions, product redesigns and process improvements (CNC milling)
- Provide technical input and support to production teams
- Independently researches, justifies and initiates designs for tooling, gauges, manufacturing, and assembly systems.
- Ensures product quality and conformance to specifications
- Consults on and troubleshoots complex production processes requiring straightforward technical solutions for both internal and vendor supplied components
- Partners with team members on applying state of the art technologies for manufacturing components, assembly processes, and Lean manufacturing techniques
- Monitors/executes the development of new components or assemblies
- Designs and develops moderately complex tools and fixtures to enhance manufacturing (CNC milling/assembly operations)
- Negotiates product component designs to accommodate cost effective technologies
- Provides support and guidance to Manufacturing Engineering Technicians in developing CNC processes and test criteria for manufactured components
- Creates and documents standard work and procedures within the Manufacturing and Assembly areas
- Evaluates machinery and manufacturing capital requirements, establishes financial impact and performs cost justification to ensure cost effectiveness of new equipment
- Participates in process improvement projects with cross-functional team members. May lead small stand-alone projects or segments of larger projects
- Interacts with suppliers, vendors, consultants, and contract engineers to obtain services or support
Skills and Experience You’ll Need as a Manufacturing Engineer:
- Bachelor's of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or closely related field, plus 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in tool design, machine technology and CNC parts manufacturing
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Knowledge and experience in manufacturing with exposure to CNC machining/programming (5 axis milling preferred)
- Working knowledge of project management, new product introduction, demand flow, lean manufacturing, quality control and ergonomics methodologies and applications
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) product costing; labor standards, statistics, process flow analysis, and problem solving
- Demonstrated ability to write and effectively present information and respond to questions from managers as well as technical and non-technical professionals
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and project management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across functions to achieve outcomes that support business objectives
- Ability to effectively use and apply Company approved software and office equipment to process and accomplish job-related tasks
Work Environment for a Manufacturing Engineer:
Work is performed in a normal office environment with exposure to the manufacturing environment.
