Job Description
This position is responsible for analysis in support of strategic planning, management decision-making and corporate objectives. The position is characterized by work that is analytical, creative, evaluative, and advisory in nature by providing management with financial data for use in setting and realizing financial objectives.
 
This role is primarily responsible for the preparation of financial forecasts (5-year forward-looking financial statements) which are the basis to support earnings guidance, corporate financing decisions, rate making decisions, and to provide other analysis as needed to various support corporate objectives, management decision-making. Preparation of the financial forecast requires ongoing communication from a diverse group within the company and ongoing analysis regarding the validity of the information utilized in the financial forecast. This role is the primary product owner for the forecasting tool used by the Company and must be knowledgeable in the forecasting tool in order to self-service the maintenance and produce new analysis and reports.
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Oversees the process of preparing periodic financial forecasts. This includes preparation of timelines, preparation of the consolidation, coordination and analysis of information provided by others, and analysis of the results.
  • Manages preparation of accounting and management reports; direct collection, organization, analysis and evaluation of complex financial data and information in preparation of required internal and external financial records, reports, and statistics, including those required by federal and state agencies.
  • Develops and present conclusions and recommendations; manage preparation and analysis of financial reports.
  • Determines required levels of analysis needed for key issues requested to be reviewed and develops a recommendation and/or proposal based on that analysis.
  • Provides presentations to senior leadership on the forecast.
  • Mentors and provides training to junior staff on preparation of the forecast.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert of Avista’s forecast software and the various integrations.
Requirements
Financial Forecasting Analyst:
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in in accounting, economics, mathematics, finance or a related discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive responsibility in reporting and accounting analysis.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, internal controls and regulatory rules/regulations is required
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Oracle E-Business Suite, forecasting tools and other applications, preferred
  • Strong background in Excel and other highly configurable applications, preferred
Hiring Range: $84,939 - $110,421
Senior Financial Forecasting Analyst meets all the above requirements plus:
  • A minimum of 7-years of progressive responsibility in reporting and accounting analysis.
  • Highly knowledgeable and proficient with forecast software and the various integrations
Hiring Range: $96,517 - $126,439

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Spokane, Washington Headquarters at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with additional day(s) determined by the manager.
