Orchard Farm School District is seeking a certified Reading Specialist to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year! The Reading Specialist will provide direct intervention support to struggling students and assist teachers and staff with the implementation of appropriate research-based strategies to increase student proficiency in overall literacy and reading.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Research, teach, and model best practices used to address the needs of those students who struggle with reading and writing
- Provide direct intervention support to struggling students in the area of literacy
- Lead the collection, analyzation, and maintenance of student benchmark and progress monitoring data
- Have a thorough understanding of evidence-based instructional best practices
- Create lesson plans and activities grounded in evidence based practices to implement and supplement instruction
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that advance all areas of children’s development and learning, including social, emotional, intellectual and physical competencies
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding progress and other educational concerns
- Maintain accurate student records
- Implement special educational plans such as 504 plans, individual educational programs, Reading Success Plans, and individual health plans
- Participate in Tier 3 meetings as requested
- Collaborate on Title 1 Compliance reports with the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment department
- Lead the planning and implementation of Title 1 Family Nights
- Attend Title 1 Family Nights
- Participate in building level PLT meetings as requested
- Participate as a member of an IEP team, 504 team or other student assistance teams as requested
- Participate in building, grade level and subject area committees (IAC)
- Participate in professional development activities
- Maintain an orderly physical environment conducive to optimal growth and development of students
- Supervision to ensure visual and auditory awareness of children at all times to ensure their safety.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and staff members
- Complete and submit forms and required reports in a timely manner
- Prepare lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher
- Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassment as directed by Board policy
- Willingness to learn new skills and perform a variety of tasks
- Perform additional building duties, student supervision, and responsibilities as assigned by Building Administrator
Marginal Duties and Responsibilities
- Support non-instructional school events, family nights, or student activities as assigned.
- Assist with general supervision duties not directly related to mathematics instruction when needed.
- Support building initiatives or short-term projects outside the core scope of literacy instruction.
Supervisory Duties
Maintain visual and auditory supervision of students at all times to ensure safety and engagement.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Education or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience teaching literacy or providing instructional support/intervention.
Valid Missouri teaching certificate.
Reading Specialist certification, preferred.

Technology Skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and instructional technology tools.
- Utilize district software for tracking student progress and analyzing assessment data.
- Operate classroom technologies such as interactive whiteboards, document cameras, and projectors.
