Music Faculty, Middle School, Grades 6-8

Job Summary: The Middle School is seeking a personable and creative Music Teacher for the 2026-27 school year.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Music education, excellent classroom management skills, and the ability to direct a middle school choir. Music instruction consists of general music courses for 6th grade, music electives, and 7/8th grade choir. The middle school music instructor must be creative and demonstrate new ideas to adapt to changing schedules, and at the same time, create a meaningful and educational music experience. Directing two music performances each year is an expectation of this role. These include the annual winter concert in collaboration with our lower and upper school choir directors; and the spring Showcase, which is a long-standing tradition that combines singing, costumes, and dancing to a variety of music genres.
A sense of humor and a positive and ambitious attitude are highly desirable. Enthusiasm for working in a middle school environment, a demonstrated commitment to innovative pedagogy, as well as the ability to thrive in a collaborative community that values creativity and independence in the classroom, are all essentials.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree, preferably in a music-related field.
- Experience teaching middle school is preferred.
- Must be available for some classes, rehearsals, and events to be held outside the normal hours of the school day.
- Solid understanding of music theory
- Proven ability to collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and participate in school-wide initiatives.
Schedule: Teaching positions are based on the school year (August through May). During the school year. There are three school vacations – one week at Thanksgiving, two weeks in December, and two weeks in March – plus holidays, personal and sick days.
Compensation: Compensation will be based on a competitive norm influenced by area and peer schools, using years of experience and the highest completed degree. Transcripts and verification of employment will be required.
