Internal Redeployment Only - Senior Marketing and Campaigns Officer


A key member of the marketing and campaigns team, you’ll create high quality content to support the University’s student recruitment campaigns and communications for a wide range of channels, including digital and print, and for audiences including prospective students, teachers and parents.

You’ll also be involved in designing and overseeing multi-channel advertising campaigns including evaluation and return on investment. 

The role may vary over time due to an ongoing review of marketing and student recruitment activity within the University.

This post is full-time and offered on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave until 3 September 2026.  

Salary: £41,064 - £46,049 per annum (Grade 6)

This role is eligible to be offered on a blended working basis, meaning that as well as spending time working on campus, you may spend some time working from another location, e.g. your home.  The University is committed to offering this flexibility, wherever the role and business need allows, supporting work-life balance.

Job Description

Key Duties
  • Create engaging and exciting copy and content across a range of topics for key stakeholders to support brand awareness and conversion activity - encouraging students to choose Cardiff as their first choice university.
  • Develop and produce marketing and recruitment materials, including hard copy brochures and prospectuses, e-communications, website content, and shareable social media content.
  • Support with the planning and management of integrated marketing campaigns to support domestic undergraduate and postgraduate student recruitment
  • Work with the Digital Communications team to ensure web content supports our marketing aims with appropriate content, landings pages and reporting metrics.
  • Play a lead role in championing the university’s brand identity and tone of voice. Support with the development of our prospectuses and other student recruitment material to ensure consistency and compliance with our writing style.
  • Work with the CRM Manager and the Marketing and Campaigns Manager to identify and understand our different audiences, their behaviours and motivations, and develop highly personalised communications to reach high quality prospective students.
  • Use market research and advances in marketing practice to design and evaluate marketing communications, and identify and target the emerging needs of potential applicants. Use this information to inform continuous improvement and development of our communications and content production.
  • Establish excellent working relationships with key contacts across the Department and College teams as well as the Students’ Union and key student societies.
  • Lead working groups with colleagues from across the University to deliver marketing communications projects such as Clearing and Open Days.
  • Provide expert advice to internal colleagues on the most appropriate marketing and communication activities to support specific student recruitment objectives.
  • Keep abreast of the University’s regulatory context, ensuring that all materials are GDPR and CMA compliant.
  • Work flexibly, sometimes outside normal working hours, to support events such as Open Days and University clearing.

Essential Criteria 

Qualifications and Education

1.    Educated to degree level, and possession and/or significant experience in a marketing or communications role.  

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
2.    Substantial experience of generating creative, innovative content and overseeing marketing and/or communications campaigns  
3.    Experience of planning workloads over an annual cycle of business and managing conflicting deadlines
4.    Substantial copywriting and copyediting experience. Demonstratable high attention to detail and experience of producing online and offline content
5.    Ability to demonstrate and evidence of expert professional knowledge within marketing communications to be recognised as an authority in the field
6.    Ability to influence senior decisions about marketing communications that have a strategic impact
7.    Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs, adapt the service, and set customer expectations
8.    Proven ability to develop networks in order to contribute to long term developments

Planning, Analysis and Problem solving
9.    Evidence of ability to undertake and deliver specific projects and supervise short term project teams

10.    Ability to take a flexible approach to working hours and, with notice, be able to undertake some out of hours working and occasional weekend working. It should also be noted that it will not normally be possible to take annual leave on undergraduate and postgraduate open days or on A-level Results Day in August.

11.    Experience of working in a Higher Education environment.
12.    Fluency in Welsh, written and oral.
