INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Job Title: Process Controls Engineer
Reports To: Process Automation Manager
Location: Moab, Utah
 
Learning Objectives & Responsibilities:
 
Industrial Automation & Controls
  • Learn and assist with PI System administration (OSIsoft), an industrial data historian used for real-time data collection and analysis.
  • Gain experience in PLC programming, including:
    • Ladder Logic
    • Function Block Diagrams
    • Structured Text
  • Support integration and troubleshooting of industrial networks (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
Control Loop Optimization
  • Learn the fundamentals of PID loop tuning to improve system stability and performance.
  • Assist in analyzing control loop behavior and adjusting tuning parameters under supervision.
Electrical Design & Power Systems
  • Participate in power study coordination using SKM Power Tools software.
  • Assist in analyzing short circuit, arc flash, and protective device coordination studies.
Design & Documentation
  • Help update one-line diagrams for electrical systems.
  • Support the development of engineering drawings using Revit and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools.
  • Document control logic, network architecture, and system configurations.
Team Collaboration
  • Work alongside experienced engineers and technicians on automation and electrical projects.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute to project planning and troubleshooting efforts.
Preferred Interests:
  • PLCs and industrial control systems
  • Revit and BIM tools
  • Data analytics or historian systems
  • PID control theory and tuning
  • Data Science, including data visualization, statistical analysis, or machine learning in industrial contexts
  • Process Design, including process mapping, optimization, and control integration
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Actively pursuing a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite PC software
SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
9/80 schedule, Monday - Thursday, 9-hour workdays, Fridays worked, 8-hour workday, with every other Friday off. Schedule subject to change.
  • Combination of outdoors, in a non-temperature controlled environment, and subject to weather conditions, and in an indoor, temperature-controlled office environment
  • Exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels
    Employees are required to wear safety attire and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Standing, walking, using hands, reaching with hands, climbing and stooping up to 2/3 of the time
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. – lifting will be required up to 2/3 of the time
  • Must be able to climb and descend vertical ladders and stairs
  • The environment may consist of moving mechanical parts and high/precarious places
  • Must be able to perceive color differences
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment as needed 
A pre-placement physical and hair follicle drug test will be required for anyone selected for this opportunity. Placement into the position will not be made until the results are received and cleared by Intrepid.
