Summary 


East Side House, founded in 1891, is a 501(c) (3) organization that has served the South Bronx since 1963. The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. East Side House has identified that education is the foundation for economic improvement, and through its youth education and technology programs it teaches skills to allow its students and clients to become more self-sufficient and independent. As a community resource, the organization also provides services to families and a growing senior population. In 2020, the organization began food distribution as an additional way to provide economic support to the community we serve.  

The Staff Accountant I is responsible for supporting the accounting functions of ESH.  . Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Staff Accountant I, and in this position, they must be well versed in ESH policies and procedures. The Staff Accountant must foster good working relationships, both internally and externally. 


Primary Functions 




Duties and Responsibilities shall include but are not limited to: 




  • Assists in monthly and year-end financial close 
  • Prepares adjusting, month-end and year-end closing journal entries.  
  • Conducts monthly analysis and reconciliations of general ledger accounts including Cash, Accounts Receivable, Prepaid Expense. Ensures reconciliations are performed in a timely manner. 
  • Process bank deposits, petty cash replenishment, and Accounts Payable functions (as needed). 
  • Assist in preparation of various financial reports including Statement of Activities, Budget versus Actual (BvA), Weekly Cash Flow and Statement of Financial Position. 
  • Assist year-end audits including preparation of audit schedules for general ledger accounts, export of journal entry files and other required by external auditors. 
  • Complete special projects assigned by the Controller or Chief Financial Officer.

Qualifications


Required Skills/Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field 
  • Experience with Abila MIP Fund Accounting, NetSuite or similar accounting software highly desirable 
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and competing deadlines 
  • Strong administrative, and organizational  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to produce accurate and timely work products when working under pressure 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate discretion with information

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Workdays/hours subject to change based on ESH’s needs. Workday/hours subject to change.

ESH has determined that up to zero percent (0%) of this position can be remote due to COVID-19. Subject to change as public health conditions evolve.

Work Environment 
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

Travel 
Rarely. May need to travel to sites.  

Physical Demands 
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
