Location: Harlan County Health System – Alma, Nebraska
Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week; rotating weekends and holidays

Harlan County Health System is seeking a caring and detail-oriented Registration / Patient Care Technician to join our patient-focused team. This position plays a vital role as the first point of contact for patients and families, ensuring an excellent experience from registration to discharge—all while supporting direct patient care under supervision.

What You’ll Do:

Patient Registration & Communication

• Greet and assist patients and visitors in a professional, compassionate manner. 
• Complete accurate registration, including financial and demographic data. 
• Verify insurance information and coordinate with Utilization Review. 
• Answer and direct phone calls, and assist staff with outgoing calls related to patient care. 
• Respond to emergency calls per established protocols. 

Patient Care Support

• Assist nursing and ER staff with basic patient care needs, admissions, transfers, and discharges. 
• Transport specimens to the lab and retrieve necessary supplies. 
• Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately. 
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team. 

Safety & Infection Control

• Practice proper body mechanics and lifting techniques. 
• Adhere to infection control standards and safe handling of materials. 
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. 

Equipment & Supplies

• Restock and maintain equipment and supplies. 
• Report any malfunctioning equipment or supply shortages. 

Additional Information

• Access to facility 24 hours a day. 
• Access to confidential patient information per privacy policies. 
• Serves patients across all age groups. 
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required. 
• Previous experience in healthcare or patient registration preferred. 
• Strong communication, organization, and computer skills. 
• Ability to work rotating weekends and holidays. 

Physical & Work Environment

• May sit or stand for extended periods. 
• Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. 
• Work is typically performed in an office or clinical setting with a moderate noise level.
