Position Duties
- Patrol campus buildings including taking boiler readings, monitor traffic and parking lots, prepare accurate/timely incident and accident reports, and respond to emergency calls via cell phone, and or walkie-talkies. Alert appropriate staff or authorities in emergency safety or maintenance situations.
- Respond to emergency calls, participate in all emergency response protocols, and serve as communication link to emergency response personnel.
- Remain alert and sensitive to emergency call situations. This requires an appropriate and immediate response to calls either coming in through emergency telephone system or directly through the switchboard.
- Actively monitor camera system at all Sandburg Campus locations.
- Maintain a thorough working knowledge of college’s emergency response protocols and how to operate emergency phone system, including internal/external call boxes, and operation of the emergency public address system.
- Escort students, faculty, staff, and campus guests on premise if requested.
- Provide detailed reports of events that occur on the work shift.
- Schedule/coordinate the use of the College’s fleet vehicles.
- Service school vans (i.e. fuel vehicles, record mileage etc.) and perform similar maintenance on security vehicles.
- Operate college switchboard in accordance with switchboard procedures as outlined in the procedure manual.
- Respond to phone communications from Public Safety supervision when unexpected security needs arise.
- Public Safety Employees may be required to report to work during periods when the campus has been closed for business and/or classes. It should be understood, Public Safety Employees may be required to remain on duty, until properly relieved of such duties.
- Participates in ongoing training and professional development relevant to position responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Locking and unlocking of doors on a regular schedule and as needs arise.
- Shipping and receiving as needed.
- The movement of equipment and furniture as needed and the setup of the facility for special function.
- Compliance with the Campus Security Act and other relevant local, state, and federal laws and statutes.
- Assist with the monitoring of external door security and fire alarm systems. Report system failures to the Director of Public Safety.
- Maintaining an effective key control program and the preparation of related management reports.
- Complying with Order of Protection decrees from state and local agencies.
- Participate in the assessment of public safety.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the college’s emergency procedures and actively participate in the college risk-management program.
- Monitor conditions, events and circumstances that present risk to the college community. Intervene and/or report as specified in the college’s risk-management plan.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Two years security experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of computer systems and software to include word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Good communication skills, both in person and over the phone.
- The ability to communicate successfully with clients of all ages, socio-economic status, sex, or race.
- Spanish or French proficiency preferred.

- Capable of continuous walking and climbing stairs throughout the campus.

- Hearing – perceiving the nature of sound with/without correction.
