High School SPED Paraprofessional (Math Focused)

Job Description

 

 

The High School SPED Paraprofessional provides instructional and behavioral support to students with disabilities, with a primary focus on secondary mathematics. Under the direction of a licensed Teacher and/or Special Education Teacher, this role delivers small-group and individualized support, implements IEP accommodations, and promotes access to grade-level standards within an inclusive, positive learning environment. While mathematics is the core assignment, the position also includes other classroom support, supervision, and flexible push-in support to other content areas as needed.

 

 

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to: Principal, High School Assistant Principal(s).

Direct Reports: This is a non-supervisory position.

Compensation:

This is a full-time, 10-month position. The hourly rate is $18.62 - $25.14 per hour (without a Bachelors degree) or $19.55 - $26.39 per hour (with a Bachelors degree) depending on experience. Additional benefits are outlined in more detail at the bottom of the job description.

 

Essential Functions (Math Focused):

Academic Support:

  • Provide targeted math interventions and in-class support aligned to IEP goals and grade-level standards.
  • Deliver small-group and one-to-one instruction following teacher-developed plans, pacing, and assessments.
  • Conduct formative checks for understanding (e.g., exit tickets, quick probes) and deliver teacher-directed feedback.
  • Implement accommodations, modifications, and supports as documented in IEPs (e.g., chunked tasks, extended time, alternate response formats, strategic calculator use, curated problem sets, graphic organizers).
  • Provide push-in support to non-math classes (e.g., Science, Social Studies, ELA electives) to reinforce reading, writing, executive functioning, and behavioral skills that enable access to core content.
  • Help organize materials and assessment logistics to ensure smooth implementation of interventions.
  • Apply positive behavior supports and de-escalation strategies to maintain a safe, affirming classroom climate.
  • Support organization, self-advocacy, and problem-solving to promote student independence across settings.
  • Maintain accurate notes on academic and behavioral progress; assist with intervention logs and progress monitoring.
  • Collaborate consistently with General Education and Special Education teachers; participate in brief team check-ins/PLCs as requested; maintain professional and confidential communication.
  • Document service time.

Student Supervision:

  • Provide supervision during passing periods, arrival/dismissal, lunch/recess, testing environments, and school events as assigned.
  • Assist with classroom setup, materials preparation, and routine procedures.

  • Maintain and deepen current educational learning on an ongoing basis.

Education and Experience:

  • Possess a High School diploma or its equivalent (e.g. GED).
  • Demonstrate subject matter competency by (1) earning an Associate’s degree or higher or (2) completing at least two years (48 credit hours) of study at an institution of higher education or (3) passing the State of Colorado WorkKeys teaching assistant exam and providing the school with test results.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred

 

Working Conditions:

Exposure/Noise Level: Occasional exposure to airborne particles, fumes, and outdoor weather conditions.  Normal school environment with moderate to high noise level.

Mental Functions: Analyze, collaboration, communicate, compare, compilation of data, compute, coordinate, copy, direct, evaluate, instruct, interpersonal skills, present, report, synthesize.

Physical Activities: Office environment including computer interface. Bend, reach, sit, stand, stoop, talk, walk, and heavy person-to-person interaction with students, parents, peers, and community members.

Weight and Force Demands: Moderate physical activity (lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 25 pounds).

Other: May be required to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work related functions.
