The Shipping & Receiving Clerk performs various shipping & receiving duties with minimal supervision while preparing, verifying and keeping records on all incoming and outgoing shipments.

Essential Job Functions

  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records.
  • Determines method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, 
  • and rates.
  • Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons, using stenciling equipment.
  • Assembles cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers.
  • Inserts items into containers, using spacers, foam, bubble wrap.
  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages.
  • Routes items to departments for incoming material.
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet customer or regulatory specifications.
  • Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Operates fork-lift truck or uses pallet jack to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving to storage or departments.
  • May directs others in preparing outgoing and receiving incoming shipments.
  • Coordinates with purchasing to ensure delivery of material and updates work in progress report to reflect current status.
  • Reviews work in progress report and work orders.
  • Delivery of product to customers or suppliers in Company van.

Job Classification Requirements

  • High School graduate with above average math and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor.
  • Ability to exert between 10 and 50 pounds on occasional basis.
  • Quality oriented & conscious.
  • Always adheres to Company safety policies.
  • Requires decision making skills.
  • Exhibits characteristics of good role-model.
  • Reliable with excellent attendance record.
  • Requires advanced training through in-house and/or external training methods.
