The Shipping & Receiving Clerk performs various shipping & receiving duties with minimal supervision while preparing, verifying and keeping records on all incoming and outgoing shipments.
Essential Job Functions
- Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records.
- Determines method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes,
- and rates.
- Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons, using stenciling equipment.
- Assembles cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers.
- Inserts items into containers, using spacers, foam, bubble wrap.
- Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages.
- Routes items to departments for incoming material.
- Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet customer or regulatory specifications.
- Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
- Operates fork-lift truck or uses pallet jack to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving to storage or departments.
- May directs others in preparing outgoing and receiving incoming shipments.
- Coordinates with purchasing to ensure delivery of material and updates work in progress report to reflect current status.
- Reviews work in progress report and work orders.
- Delivery of product to customers or suppliers in Company van.
Job Classification Requirements
- High School graduate with above average math and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor.
- Ability to exert between 10 and 50 pounds on occasional basis.
- Quality oriented & conscious.
- Always adheres to Company safety policies.
- Requires decision making skills.
- Exhibits characteristics of good role-model.
- Reliable with excellent attendance record.
- Requires advanced training through in-house and/or external training methods.
