Responsible for overseeing production and marketing initiatives, as well as managing relationships with key wholesale agents. Collaborates closely with Underwriting Teams to align strategies and drive results. Builds and nurtures relationships with Executive Leaders to identify and pursue business development opportunities.
Responsibilities:- Drives consistent building and nurturing of partnerships with key executives and other identified leaders of national and other large agencies and brokers.
- Enhances MUSIC’s external profile and facilitates high-level relationship management activities that enable mutually beneficial growth for long-term success.
- Execute annual business planning process with each assigned relationship in conjunction with AVP of Marketing and works cross functionally with internal Underwriting Management. Responsible for executing monthly and quarterly reports for management of the assigned relationships. Make suggestions for improvement and execute when necessary.
- Evaluate business development opportunities with assigned relationships and new prospects. Develop business use cases for escalation of new opportunities. Responsible for external marketing and education of assigned wholesale agents. Understands underwriting guidelines including rates, concepts behind coverage forms and risk-taking appetite and financial metrics.
- Ensure General Agents comply with contract terms and underwriting guidelines.
- Monitor and ensure the achievement of the wholesale agents’ premium and profitability goals and keep abreast of current market conditions that affect business levels. Ensure wholesale agents meet expectations in terms of production, profitability and all other operating expectations. Initiate corrective action when necessary.
- Gather and maintain key competitor information relative to our product portfolio within the assigned wholesale agents offices.
- Understanding and monitoring the dynamic landscape of distribution partners driven by M&A activities
- Manage key contacts and engagements via Customer Relationship Management(CRM) system
- Develops and manages ideas related to compensation, contingencies, supplemental, commission schedules and overrides to maximize revenue potential
- Provide underwriting support as necessary to the assigned wholesale agents as prescribed in letters of authority.
- Must be able to drive an automobile to travel within territory. Car travel represents approximately 40% of employee’s time and a valid driver’s license.
- This role requires frequent travel across the United States. A valid driver’s license is required. Plane travel is expected to support broader business development and relationship management efforts.
Knowledge and Requirements
- Broad knowledge of Excess & Surplus underwriting environment.
- Exceptional skills to build consensus across areas of influence (external and/or internal relationships).
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers/peers.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must have valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing and be able to drive an automobile.
Education and Experience
- College degree in financial-related area such as accounting, finance, business administration, or marketing preferred.
- 8+ years of underwriting or similar experience.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
