We are Proud to be SJE!

At SJE, we are more than a company — we are a family of brands with a shared vision and mission to provide industry-leading, innovative, and reliable control and monitoring solutions that improve efficiencies, protect the environment, and deliver dependable solutions to our valued customers. We are looking for a CAD Specialist to support our family of SJE engineered brands. This role will work out of our Ashland, OH location.

The job:

As our CAD Specialist, you will be responsible for generating and maintaining detailed production drawings for assigned projects while working closely with sales, engineering, and production teams to ensure all drawing packages are accurate, complete, and delivered on time and within budget. Your work will help bridge the gap between design and production by translating sketches, markups, and engineering intent into clear, professional, and build-ready CAD documents. Typical deliverables include scaled panel layout drawings, terminal block details, schematics, field connections, bills of material, engraving lists, network diagrams, and fabrication drawings.

In this role, you will use AutoCAD and related software to produce accurate, scaled drawings that meet company and customer standards. You will perform detailed three-way checks to ensure device labels, wire numbers, and cross-references are correct, and convert engineering and customer designs into production-ready formats. You will collaborate with shop floor teams to resolve design questions, create fabrication drawings for custom enclosures and accessories, and support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives. Your responsibilities will also include revising and reissuing drawings as needed, creating and maintaining digital drawing files, and ensuring all design documentation is properly stored and accessible on the company network.

The skills, education, and experience you need:

To succeed in this role you should:

  • Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
  • Be able to work independently while effectively collaborating across departments.
  • Translate markups, sketches, or incomplete information into polished CAD drawings.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Communicate clearly with engineers, production staff, and project managers to resolve design discrepancies.
  • Show initiative in improving processes and maintaining organized digital records.
  • Be proficient in AutoCAD and related CAD software.
  • Have familiarity with electrical control panels, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics.

A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with 2-5 years of experience is strongly preferred.
