The Health & Safety Advisor reports directly to the H&S Director to assist in the implementation of common EHS programs, policies, and processes. The right candidate will support daily EHS activities within assigned location(s). Duties could include incident investigations, regulatory fieldwork, data collection, compliance auditing, training, and emergency response. This role requires someone that is results-oriented and compliance driven. This role will support Logistics and Sales operations and requires someone who is able to support multiple locations in the Houston area, and able to travel within the US 5-10% of the time. Rare but occasional support for off-shifts may be required. 

Position Responsibilities may include: 

  • Administering EHS programs and policies including policy guidance 
  • Supporting EHS initiatives and projects as assigned by direct manager
  • Completing thorough incident investigations in collaboration with Operations
  • Reviewing and retaining various investigative documents including photos, videos, medical records, etc.
  • Kaizen development and support for Operations 
  • Supporting Daikin's 5S efforts 
  • Coaching employees and managers on H&S program and policy interpretation 
  • Performing routine compliance audits within assigned facilities
  • Developing and providing functional safety training 
  • Ensuring appropriate regulatory documentation and recordkeeping; enter required data, update and maintain records 
  • Recording, collecting, and analyzing data. Preparing reports for key metrics as assigned
  • Collaborating with Corporate/Specialist functions to develop and implement integrated EHS solutions 
  • Maintaining confidential information 
  • Perform additional projects/duties to support ongoing business needs 

Nature & Scope:

  • Applies practical knowledge of EHS concepts, typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.
  • Encouraged to seek continuous improvements.
  • Performs a range of mainly straightforward assignments.
  • Works independently with general supervision.
  • Travel locally required frequently, and US travel required 5-10% of the time
  • Work location will vary day-to-day
  • Rare but occasional off-shift work may be required for training or emergencies

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Working knowledge of fundamental EHS concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Has in-depth knowledge of OSHA 1910, and can support compliance efforts
  • Strong investigation skills, and demonstrated experience with Root Cause Analysis techniques 
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (including public speaking) and good interpersonal skills 
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Effective organizational and time management skills 
  • Excellent collaboration, facilitation, and team-building skills; ability to establish positive work relationships 
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships 
  • Ability to apply good judgment, strong work ethics, and integrity on the job 

    Experience:

    • 3+ years of demonstrated EHS experience, preferably within a large manufacturing or distribution environment 
    • Fully competent professional

    Education/Certification:

    • Bachelor’s degree in related field strongly preferred; may consider 5+ years of relevant experience
