Specimen Collector/ Phlebotomist

The specimen Collector/ Phlebotomist will be responsible for assisting the facility/clinic with a variety of services including: sample collection including blood draws and other specimen collection as well. Must clean and maintain laboratory and all equipment. Multitasking and prioritizing the importance of daily tasks is essential if necessary, patient services related to sample collection, processing, reporting, and administrative duties. The position will require competency and comfort handling bodily fluids. The Phlebotomist/Specimen Collector must follow lab safety guidelines to include PPE and sanitation related to job duties.


A well qualified candidate for this position will possess the following qualities or qualifications:


Essential Duties

1. Educate medical practice staff on the laboratory’s role and expectations tied to financial responsibility and medically necessary testing.

2. Discuss the drug testing process with the patient; obtain the patient’s consent and necessary signatures tied to the requisition form and other laboratory documents, including those associated with financial responsibility.

3. Collect the specimen and ensure proper identification of the same.

4. Blood draws and other specimen collection as required such as toxicology collection (urine).

5. Complete administrative components of test requisition forms to carry out the practitioner’s test orders(patient demographic information, practice demographics, ensure the document is complete, ensure the practitioner's test orders are properly reflected on the form).

6. Make a copy of the patient’s demographic sheet or obtain demographic information from appropriate areas of the electronic health record in accordance with the laboratory’s policy on accessing computerized health records.

7. Package the specimen for shipment to the laboratory and coordinate delivery if required. Facilitate communications between the medical practice and laboratory

8. Facilitate communication of test reports

9. Maintain inventory of all testing supplies and submit orders ensure specimen collection

10. Maintain all laboratory equipment issued for specimen collection in good working order to include laptops,
printers, etc.

11. Address any administrative tasks related to the laboratory and/or specimen collection as directed

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent or Associate Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physical or Biological Science or MLT from an accredited institution
  • National certified as a Phlebotomist or at least (3) years of phlebotomy working experience
  • Legible handwriting is desired
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to learn new techniques quickly
  • Ability to work well with others, including communication skills with a customer service focus
  • Strong attention to detail and an organized approach to tasks
  • Ability to adapt to multi-tasking work load demands and remain calm and continue to function efficiently during difficult situations
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and medications preferred

Days/Hours:

Tuesday and Thursday (9am-4pm)


Pay:

Starting $16/hr


*Must be able and willing to travel to other work locations if necessary.

*Valid/unexpired Phlebotomy Certification from a National Organization is preferred
