JOB SUMMARY:

The primary responsibilities of the Traffic Coordinator are to:

  • Be sure safety and quality are always part of the daily operation, to provide a safe workplace and to load product with the and highest quality product possible.
  • Ensure the proper product and piece count is loaded on the truck.
  • Oversee all loaders working on crew, including the safety, training and supervision.
  • Be able to navigate and understand the production reporting software.
  • Ensure accurate daily inventory count and prior day’s shipment reconciliation.
  • Ensure effective and efficient flow of incoming and outgoing commodities and the documentation for all transactions.
  • Effectively communicate operational information to other departments, plants, and the corporate staff in a complete and professional manner.
  • Investigate and implement solutions to any departmental issues that may arise.

 

 

POSITION PROFILE:

To be successful in the position, a candidate would have (but not be limited to) certain skills and abilities to:

  • Strong Computer Skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office; Specifically Excel & Outlook
  • Ability to work 50-60 hours per week as needed (Including Saturdays)
  • Organize personnel to perform specific tasks.
  • Follow up on personnel to ensure their productivity.
  • Multi-task in a warehouse and office environment.
  • Perform loading related physical demands as needed.
  • Use good communication skills.
  • Use good organization skills.
  • Working closely alongside others in a team environment.
  • Follow procedures and react to conditions outside of set guidelines.
  • Use a calculator to plot loads by weight.
  • Proficiently read a tape measure.
  • Perform frequent visual inspections of product.
  • Be flexible to take on additional duties as needed.

 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES:

 

SAFETY

 

The Traffic Coordinator is responsible for his/her personal safety as well as the loaders they supervise.  Safety is the number one consideration in all daily activities.

  • Participate in all required safety training and meetings in compliance with meeting all American Gypsum and OSHA safety requirements.
  • Know all safety procedures, rules and ensure enforcement.
  • Report all accidents both injury and non-injury immediately. See that proper documentation is complete.
  • Properly train new operators on safety procedures.
  • Ensure that housekeeping is being maintained.
  • Ensure the use of all required PPE.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve safety.
  • Identify weaknesses in the crew and work to eliminate them.
  • Ensure mobile equipment checklists are done at the beginning of each shift.
  • Prepare and present weekly crew safety huddles.
  • Set an example for all Loading personnel.
  • Ensure propane bottles are filled on a daily basis following safe refilling procedures.

 

 QUALITY

 

  • Adhere to all quality-related procedures.
  • Complete cull forms accurately and completely.
  • Place culled board in proper location.
  • Know product location in the warehouse.
  • Know how to properly stack board.
  • Ensure all loaders are following quality related procedures.

 

OPERATIONS

 

Operations – Trucks:

  • Plot load as directed on paperwork.
  • Inspect trailer for missing planks, snow or ice on deck.
  • Consult with truck driver for length of trailer and load placement on trailer.
  • Ensure jack stand is under empty trailer.
  • Load trailers.
  • Inspect load for accuracy and damage when loading is complete.
  • Sign off on paperwork and return paperwork to driver.
  • Return any units that may have been set aside back to the proper location.
  • Pickup any dunnage that may be on floor.                                                                                                                                                            

Operations – Rails:

  • Know the proper safety procedures in the shrink-wrap area.
  • Know how to use fall protection.
  • Have knowledge of prep work. i.e. nailing slueters, cutting banding.
  • Other assignments as directed by supervision.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

 

  • Must be flexible with job duties; may be required to fill in on other jobs or in other departments when the business or organization is short-handed.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

MACHINES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

 

  • 15,000 lb, 10,000 lb and 5,000 lb forklift.
  • Sweeper scrubber floor machine.
  • Mobile railcar mover.
  • Propane shrink wrap gun.
  • Air bander.
  • Air nailer.
  • Broom and shovel.
  • Utility knife.
  • Tape measure.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Logistical, warehouse, and inventory management experience (Preferred).
  • Forklift experience.
  • Knowledge of basic loading office operations.  
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.

 

TECHNICAL/CLERICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office suite (Required).
  • Must be able to read information on Bill of Lading.
  • Must be able to use a calculator for basic math functions.
  • Must be able to read a tape measure.
  • Strong understanding of basic computer operations.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to climb on and off forklift frequently.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Must be able to work 50-60 hours per week as needed.  (Including Saturdays)

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS:

  • Well-lighted.
  • Loading office is climate controlled.
  • The plant floor is not climate controlled.
  • Attention level requirements are high; working around forklifts in high traffic areas.
  • Slippery floor conditions may exist in inclement weather.
