Job Description

This is an internal promotional opportunity limited to ISU employees.

Consistent with Idaho State University’s (ISU) Strategic Goal Three: Cultivate External Partnerships; Goal Four: Expand Research, Clinical, and Creative Activities; and, Goal Five: Energize the Bengal Community, the Associate Vice President for Research (AVPR) for Innovation Partnerships’s role shall encompass the cultivation of research-focused external strategic alliances, strategic planning, operational oversight, and assist with faculty support. The AVPR-IP will provide comprehensive support to the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (VPRED) in advancing the university's research mission, cultivating a robust research environment, and developing strong research partnerships and alliances within and external to ISU.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Implementation:

  • Participate in the formulation and execution of the university's research strategic plan.
  • Conduct periodic analysis of emerging research trends and opportunities.
  • Assess and enhance research policies and procedural frameworks.
  • Disseminate information and promote the university's research accomplishments.

External Relations:

  •  Represent ISU at official research-related events and convocations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with Idaho National Laboratory for execution and growth of activities outlined in the SUPER agreement.
  • Liaison with Chief Campus Administrator in IF on CMESIC administration. Establish and maintain strategic relationships with funding agencies, industry stakeholders, and domestic and international peer research institutions.

Operational Management:

  • Exercise prudent management of research budgets and resource allocation.
  • Provide supervisory leadership to research support personnel.

Faculty Support:

  •  In collaboration with the Office of Research Development, render expert guidance and support to faculty in the acquisition of external funding.
  • Facilitate and promote interdisciplinary research collaborations.
  • Assist ISU faculty in international research partnership development and implementation.
  • Assist ISU faculty in developing, protecting, and licensing intellectual property.

Research Infrastructure:

  • Oversee administration and operations of key research infrastructure directly related to external research partnerships and alliances.

Minimum Qualifications
●    Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a relevant discipline.
●    Associate or full professor with tenure at a research-engaged university, or equivalent experience and qualifications.
●    Substantial experience in research leadership or a related professional domain.
●    Comprehensive knowledge of research funding mechanisms and regulatory compliance requirements.
●    Proven leadership and executive management acumen.
●    Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
●    Demonstrated capacity for collaborative work with faculty, staff, and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications

●    Collaboration experience with the Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC). 
●    Industry partnership development experience. 


Additional Information

Salary will be between $140,000 - $151,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
