SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

 

The Director of Business Development – Port Dray & Warehouse is a strategic sales leader responsible for driving new customer acquisition as well as balancing existing customer management. This role focuses on identifying high-potential prospects, executing outbound sales campaigns, qualifying inbound marketing leads, and converting new opportunities into long-term partnerships. Success in this role means consistently opening new doors, securing initial meetings, while balancing growth opportunities with existing customers to build a strong pipeline of new business opportunities. 

 

In addition, this role is responsible to support business improvement by meeting personal and departmental goals and objectives timely and effectively. 

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

 

  • Develop and execute strategic outbound prospecting plans (cold calling, email, LinkedIn, etc.). 
  • Identify and target key accounts that align with the company’s service offerings. 
  • Work with existing customers to service current business while seeking growth and cross-selling opportunities to expand existing customer growth. 
  • Build a strong pipeline of opportunities and progress them through the sales funnel. 
  • Deliver persuasive presentations to prospective customers and manage the sales process through close. 
  • Collaborate with marketing to optimize messaging and campaign effectiveness. 
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and sales forecasts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES: 

 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BS) is required. 
  • Applicants must reside near Charleston SC or Savannah GA 
  • A minimum of 5+ years of Business Development experience and relevant industry experience in positions of increasing authority.   
  • Candidate must have experience selling both Port Drayage and Warehouse solutions in the Charleston and Savannah market, while showing a track record of growing market share and exceeding sales goals. 
  • Proven strategic operational and pricing experience in Port Dray and Warehousing space to support revenue growth while expanding company strategic plans related to Dray and Warehousing. 
  • Proven sales success through solutions based and fact-based selling. 
  • Proven skills in market analysis, critical thinking, prospecting, relationship management, communications, market intelligence and understanding the accompanying key metrics. 
  • Extensive skills in leadership, initiative, creativity and reliability. 
  • Must have strong working knowledge of MS Office; prior experience in Excel and PowerPoint a must. 
  • Projects a strong positive image and voice that conveys confidence to customers.  
  • An unquestioned work ethic, willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and work closely with colleagues and team members. 
  • Advanced presentation, business writing, and verbal communication skills.  
  • Ability to collaborate equally well with company leadership, peers, employees and customers.  
  • Exceptional decision-making skills, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively manage escalations and time critical issues with poise.  
  • An unwavering commitment to ethics with the highest levels of integrity coupled with a focus on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. 
  • The position requires visits to key customers and attendance at trade shows, requiring 30%-50% travel.
