Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced architect to join our team in the design and delivery of semi-custom homes and community assets. This person will specialize in process optimization, and be responsible for streamlining and accelerating the architectural design workflow from conceptualization through construction documentation (typically external). This role is a hybrid of a traditional design architect and a process architect, requiring a keen eye for both creative design and operational efficiency.
The successful candidate will leverage technology, standardization, and cross-functional collaboration to reduce design cycle times, minimize revisions, and ensure projects progress swiftly and seamlessly. This is a unique opportunity for a passionate architect who thrives at the intersection of creativity, technical detail, and collaboration, to help shape the future of one of the most visionary resort communities in the country.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design
- Develop and refine concept designs in collaboration with outside architectural firms or directly in-house.
- Produce construction documents from design development including managing structural engineers, geotechnical testing, landscape and grading designs.
- Create and adjust house designs, floor plans, elevations, and design packages tailored to luxury buyers.
- Define and manage building envelopes to maximize views, ski access, and lot potential and create site notebooks or other support materials.
- Technical Execution
- Produce precise blueprints, floor plans, elevations, and 3D models using CAD software like AutoCAD and Revit. The plans need to be accurate, detailed, and aligned with site and engineering requirements.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, and MEP engineers to deliver fully integrated plan sets.
- Ensure all drawings adhere to local and national building codes, zoning laws, and design regulations.
- Integrate measurements, sketches, and specifications provided by other architects and engineers into the technical drawings.
- Prepare documents, material takeoffs, and other necessary technical documentation.
- Modify and update drawings based on feedback from project teams and design changes.
- Review and analyze plans and specifications to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Conduct site visits to gather data, take measurements, and ensure that the drawings accurately represent the site conditions.
- Complete Change Orders as required and interface with the construction and sales team.
- Collaboration & Integration
- Adapt designs to client preferences and market demand.
- Collaborate with the Real Estate and Development teams to ensure designs are beautiful, buildable, efficient, and on budget.
- Contribute to design standards that maintain the architectural identity of Powder Haven and update/modify the Design Standards and Guidelines.
- Develop and maintain a standardized library of architectural assets, including common design details, specifications, and building assemblies, to expedite the creation of new design documents.
- Construction Administration
- Report status of projects to the Development team, with weekly progress reports in person and written to the Real Estate Team.
- Manage detailed organization and communication of progress on all projects.
- Project Manage the architecture portion of the construction to oversee design efficacy, track updates, ensure quality.
Requirements
- Licensed Architect (preferred) or eligible for licensure with strong professional experience.
- Bachelor's degree in architectural drafting, architecture, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in residential or resort design, ideally with a portfolio of luxury or high-end custom homes.
- Expertise in Revit, AutoCAD, and other architectural software; proficiency in SketchUp/Rhino/Lumion is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects from concept to construction documents to build.
- Strong communication and coordination skills across diverse teams and with clients.
- Experience working in mountain or resort communities is highly desirable.
