What You’ll Do

The Mechanical Project Engineer is a technical resource for the global New Product Development (NPD) team who works closely with global cross-functional teams, customers, and suppliers to develop power systems. The Mechanical Project Engineer is the key technical advisor on mechanical concepts, designs, and issues, providing reliable solutions to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the NPD process. Evening and irregular work hours are to be expected with the primary design team based in China. This role will be hybrid to manage work life balance while supporting various time zones. 

 

Responsibilities (Including other duties as assigned)

  • Primary technical interface between the Inventus China based development center and the domestic customer.
  • Function as a key technical resource for the domestic program management team.
  • Assist sales and program management team with domestic customer calls by fielding and answering technical issues and questions.
  • Address technical issues and questions with the Inventus China based development team.
  • Provide oversight of the mechanical design with limited supervision. Scope of work regularly includes:
    1. defining requirements
    2. creating CAD concepts
    3. creating specifications
    4. reviewing designs
    5. performing analysis (tolerance stack, simulation, mechanical calculations)
    6. troubleshooting failures
    7. identifying design improvements
    8. attending and participating in internal and customer meetings
    9. Preparing and reviewing technical reports
  • Support developmental builds in the Tijuana, Mexico factory.
  • Construct prototypes; evaluate and document their performance; identify improvements.
  • Explore new and existing design concepts and methods to solve design challenges.
  • Establish a culture of learning, openness, and accountability.

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering with more than 3 years of experience in electronics design and manufacturing in the consumer, telecom, automotive, medical, and/or military industries.
  • Prior experience working with overseas development teams.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills for working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Prior customer-facing experience such as Field Application Engineering, Application Engineering, Technical Marketing.
  • Ability to speak and read Mandarin Chinese preferred. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior experience designing lithium batteries, chargers, and/or power supplies.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency using 3D CAD modeling systems (SolidWorks, Creo)   
  • Technical experience with the design and manufacturing of plastic injection molded parts
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and project management methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally. 25% or less travel
