Job Description
This position is located at the Okeechobee Field Station. Service diesel engines, large pumps, and ancillary machinery and equipment including reconditioning and rebuilding engine and equipment parts. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, sketches, and blueprints. Assist with the installation of portable pumps, machinery, and equipment at pumping stations and remote locations. Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose. Ability to use a computerized maintenance management system.
Knowledge of basic mathematics, basic electrical theory, hydraulics, pneumatics, pipe fitting, valve and piping installations, mechanical power transmission, welding, and brazing.
Other duties as assigned.
This position is subject to random mandatory drug/alcohol testing.
Work hours are Tuesday - Friday from 6:30 am - 5:00 pm.
Employment Guidelines:
High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years' experience overhauling, diagnosing and repairing diesel engines including servicing ancillary mechanical equipment. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
The hiring range for this position is $51,854.40 to $63,086.40 (based on education and years of relevant work experience). Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Licenses:
Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without restriction to operate vehicles equipped with manual transmission and air brakes, or the ability to obtain a CDL Learner’s Permit within 2 months and/or CDL License within 6 months from date of hire or placement in the job. District willing to pay cost of CDL training program.
Ability to obtain certifications in Rigging, Forklift, and First Aide/CPR/AED.
Preferred factory training on diesel engines.
Physical Requirements/ Working Environment:
Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.
Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests, and operates equipment to complete assignments. Work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities. Moves or otherwise transports equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
Position works inside and outside traveling to pumping stations inspecting and repairing machinery and equipment. Overtime will be required based on weather and/or environmental conditions.
