The Electrical Engineer IV – Staff Engineer is responsible for leading electrical engineering projects, designing, developing, and overseeing the integration of electrical and electronic components into various systems. They will provide engineering input to the product development projects assigned to them including interfacing with the cross functional teams consisting of engineering, operations (industrial engineering, production, material procurement sourcing), quality, service, test technicians, suppliers, sales engineers, and software & controls.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
7+ years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to develop and document electrical system architecture including wiring/schematic diagrams.
Experience in the creation of complex electrical wire harnesses.
Ability to conduct circuit load and short circuit analysis of electrical systems.
Strong knowledge of electrical control circuits, systems, and components.
Demonstrated problem solving ability utilizing problem solving processes and techniques to objectively analyze a problem and drive to root cause and corrective/preventive actions.
Self-starter, energizing, results oriented, and able to multi-task.
Experience in carrying out new product designs through the development lifecycle.
Basic understanding of mechanical systems.
Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Ability to translate technical information to all audiences.
Applies engineering knowledge and experience to improve products, services, and processes.
Ability to solve complex engineering problems.
Strong technical skills to include 2D and 3D modeling (AutoCAD, Creo, or equivalent).
Strong knowledge of industry standards (UL2200, NFPA 70, IPC/WHMA-A-620E).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
Previous experience with SAP or equivalent ERP.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Works across engineering functions in defining systems strategy and coordinating technical reviews. Engages in technical discussions; participate in technical designs and present technical ideas.
Proactively trains, coaches, and mentors less experienced Engineers.
Executes development projects that deliver products in compliance with regulatory standards for the end applications they are deployed in.
Designs, validates, and brings new products to market.
Specifies precise new product functional requirements; designs, tests and integrates a variety of increasingly complex components to produce final designs; and evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost (including cost/benefit analysis), reliability (risk analysis), and safety.
Collaborates with internal and external manufacturing partners, designers, and product specialists to optimize increasingly complex designs for manufacturability.
Utilizes CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.
Supports product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs).
Ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy.
Ability to translate technical information to all audiences.
Advanced knowledge of communication protocols/hardware interface.
Occasional travel to other Generac facilities and customer sites.

Level of Independence:
This position works with minimal guidance from the engineering leader.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
