 Summary

Reporting to the Production Operations Supervisor, the Production Shift Lead will be responsible for loading and unloading finished products and raw materials for customer’s use, washing and sanitizing trailers with hot water, manufacturing of sucrose and invert products, and calculating and mixing of specialist blends as well as providing leadership and guidance to staff and ensuring the production schedule is met for assigned shift. This position is Monday - Friday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM

  • Follows and complies with all appropriate company safety rules and regulations, including but not limited to OSHA, and any and all local, state, or federal agencies for Sweeteners Plus for a healthy and safe work environment
  • Follows all appropriate safety procedures while loading, and unloading product
  • Load finished product onto liquid and dry trailers
  • Unload raw materials from liquid and dry railcars and trailers
  • Operate forklift, tractors, trailers and/or moving railcars using hand jack or forklift
  • Prepares work orders for major maintenance or repairs to equipment
  • Ability to recognize emergency situations and implement appropriate responses
  • May be required to work flexible hours and be able to work Monday thru Sunday, if needed
  • Clean and maintain work area
  • Turn off equipment when not in use
  • Immediately report any vehicle or equipment defects, accidents, injuries, and vehicle or equipment damage
  • Immediately complete all required accident or incident reports
  • Assist in cleaning and repairing tasks
  • Use of all types of hand tools (I.E.: railcar bars, railcar vibrator, pneumatic railcar gate opener, shovels, wrenches, etc.)
  • Operates power/air tools and equipment (I.E.:  rail car bar, fork lift, etc.)
  • Manufacture sucrose, invert & other specific products for our customers
  • Knowledge and thorough understanding of dispatch and scheduling
  • Provides leadership and guidance to staff on assigned shift acting as a subject matter expert and directing the work flow
  • Trains new operators
  • May act as backup to Production Operations Supervisor including planning, scheduling, issue resolution, and administrative tasks.  
  • Ensures the production plan is met on assigned shift.
  • Performs other duties may be assigned

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 4+ years experience working in manufacturing with confirmed knowledge and ability to operate all equipment in this area.
  • Ability to work independently 
  • Strong safety performance and value for safety
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and use of tools
  • Extensive knowledge of production processes and plant. 
  • Excellent fundamental skills (math, reading, writing)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Flexibility in accepting change and an attitude of continuous improvement
  • Able to wear protective gear correctly during the work day
  • Proper handling of food grade chemicals
  • Willingness and ability to work afternoon and evening shifts, and weekends
  • Willing to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attendance record

 Required education and experience

  • High school diploma or GED and/or equivalent in job related experience.

Work environment and physical demands

  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures
  • Ability to lift up to sixty pounds routinely
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, and walk long distances
  • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to bend, stretch, and twist
  • Ability to reach, push, pull, grasp

 Travel required

  •  The home office for this role is indicated at the top of this job description. Travel to other Ingredients Plus locations may be required as business needs arise.
