WSP is currently initiating a search for a Telecom Engineer for our Binghamton, NY office.  The following location will also be considered: Buffalo, NY.  The candidate will be involved in projects with our Power & Energy Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

  • Assist in preparing and reviewing conceptual design for telecom connections to major electrical substations and facilities
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing project telecom specifications
  • Assist with develop telecom testing and validation reports
  • Perform site visits and coordinate with telecommunications providers
  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards and specifications, good engineering practice and constructability.
  • Have knowledge of related disciplines/fields of engineering and as needed coordinate/supervise design activities of multi-disciplined project team members
  • Provide construction support including resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects
  • Maintaining good working relationships and fulfilling commitments to project team and internal/external groups that support projects such as procurement, construction, project management, material suppliers, contractors, and any others that affect the quality, schedule and cost of projects
  • Mentoring and providing guidance to developing engineers within the department
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering, Telecommunication/Networking Engineering, or a similar field
  • 1+ years of knowledge in communication technologies: IP-based networks (routing and switching), fiber optics, RF systems, LTE services, and cybersecurity
  • Experience with configuration, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Attend field visit to survey new and upgrade services
  • Working knowledge of Legacy TDM, SONET services
  • Experience in energy companies and electrical concepts
  • Ability to create documentation, review and provide technical guidance.
  • Participation with other working teams inside the company (Project Managers, Protection and Control Engineers, Substations Engineer, etc), contractors, and vendors
  • Support project execution by delivering telecom solutions aligned with project needs
  • Understanding of financial terms to assess economic proposals, quotes, and vendor offers
  • This position is subject to and contingent upon client approval of candidates put forth for consideration by WSP. 
  • Position is located at client offices. 
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer in Training Certification.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $67,600 - $111,650
 

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
