Business Services Loan Specialist I

Department: Credit Administration

Non-Exempt

Pay Grade: 9: $24.47 an hour to $36.70 an hour

Report To: Business Loan Specialists Manager


SUMMARY:

With the goal of enhancing lives, fulfilling dreams and building communities this position processes a variety of Commercial and Business Loan applications by working with the loan officers and analysts to document the files, contacting service providers, validating member information, and performing general member service.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

•Contributes to the organization's mission statement and goals by providing the highest quality of service, treating each person professionally - with warmth, courtesy and respect cross-selling additional services, and making a personal effort to make members feel they belong and are important to the credit union.


•Maintains knowledge and adheres to all BSA regulations and compliance standards on internal and external policies.


•Maintains a thorough understanding of NCUA and DFI regulations as they apply to commercial and business lending.


•Provides effective and timely processing of commercial and business loan applications, assuring accuracy and consistency, and compliance with NCU policies and regulatory guidelines.


•Reviews the approval document and ensures all conditions and stipulations have been satisfied.


•Validates/reconciles information to ensure loan is documented as approved. Reviews entity documentation and formation papers for appropriate titles and signatories.


•Orders and reviews third party exhibits such as title reports, flood certifications, tax tracking, UCC searches, business credit reports, and environmental screening with the ability to understand associated risks presented.


•Ensures fees and costs associated with an account are detailed and have been obtained.


•Sets up and organizes the loan files.


•Contributes to efficient processing and closing of loans by communicating the status of loans in progress to the loan officer.


•Understands and prepares commercial loan documents utilizing specialty software with little supervision, assuring the perfection of collateral, thus protecting the credit union’s security interest. Reviews signed loan documents prior to submission for booking.


•Provides for effective control of collateral and lien perfection by preparing appropriate documents and forms to place liens on subject collateral and coordination of title and registration requirements with members, lenders, appropriate vendors and/or agencies, and internal title team.


•Maintains current knowledge of commercial lending policy and procedures.


•Utilizes the primary computer system of the credit union to access accounts and reports and input data.


•Assists with general office tasks within the department.


•Contributes to efficient department operations by performing other related duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

Performs functions in an accurate and timely manner. Professional in appearance and attitude. Utilizes interpersonal skills effectively in a team environment.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma (G.E.D); plus 1 to 3 years’ experience in commercial loan processing at a credit union, bank or other financial institution; strong knowledge of loan documentation, document preparation, collateral perfection and knowledge of appropriate regulations and Microsoft Office and Excel.


INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating, influencing or training others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees and members of the organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

No requirement, however a Notary License is desirable.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to accurately type information onto forms and into computer system. General knowledge of state and federal lending regulations. Ability to read credit reports and knowledge of necessary loan documentation required for consumer loans offered by the credit union. Ability to operate general office machines and equipment such as: typewriters, photocopier, fax machine, word processor, CRT unit, and printers. Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
