DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages and supervises jobs duties for Health Information Technicians, Health Information Specialists and Health Information Analysts.
Provides training and guidance to other staff, including Health Information Technicians, Health Information Specialists, and Health Information Analysts.
Manages incoming digital faxes, including requests from pharmacies for medication refills, discharge summaries for hospitals for emergency department visits and inpatient stays, and requests from durable medical equipment companies.
Reviews faxes and assigns them to applicable patient record by category of information.
Forwards faxes to nursing or appropriate provider.
Performs referral tracking functions, which include making appointments, sending requests for records, sending follow-up letters and changing the status of the referral, as appropriate.
Provides patients the ability to communicate with health care providers.
Performs analysis of organization’s digital information flow and makes changes to processes and procedures to improve the flow of digital information.
Performs analysis of EHR quality data digital formats.
Resolves issues and serves as a link between subordinates and upper management.
Monitors employee productivity and providing constructive feedback and coaching.
Adheres to the terms and conditions set forth in BSHC’s corporate compliance program.
Ensures confidential information in accordance with BSHC’s policy and current HIPAA regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
At least three (3) years of health care experience, one (1) year of informatics experience or associate’s degree.
Health care experience may include medical records, clinical care, or information technology.
Certification in a health care field, in addition to the bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree is desirable.
Must be proficient and have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Extensive training in the acquisition, transmission, storage, and retrieval of health care information in BSHC’s EHR system is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
