Great SouthernBank has partnered with a third-party technology and operations serviceprovider, Constantinople, to build a new small business bank (SBB) thatdelivers innovative digital banking solutions for small business customers. Inaddition, the Bank has very recently launched an embedded finance model,onboarding distribution partners to collaborate with the bank andConstantinople to distribute financial products through embedded partnerships.
This is anexciting opportunity to shape a new business model, combining the fast-pacedchallenges of a start-up with the foundations of one of Australia’s largestmember-owned banks.
We’re seeking an experienced Senior Manager BusinessControls, to partner with divisional leaders and distribution partners,embedding robust risk and control practices that balance regulatoryobligations, commercial priorities, and great customer outcomes.
This position is open to candidates located inBrisbane or Sydney, offering you the flexibility to work from home two days aweek.

This is a key strategic role for the Bank, and onewhich will require you to be comfortable operating in a fast paced and agileenvironment dealing with a broad range of stakeholders across Great SouthernBank, Constantinople and the Bank’s distribution partners. All these partieshave differing needs and objectives, and you will leverage your extensive riskmanagement experience to work with these stakeholders to embed prudent risk andcontrol management across the customer lifecycle and enabling services.
You will work with the Head of Business Controls topartner with key internal stakeholders and distribution partners on all risk,obligation and control matters, providing risk expertise in the identificationand assessment of risk, obligations and controls to support businessobjectives. This will include:
- Representing risk and compliance management in projects relating to the onboarding of additional embedded finance partners.
- Coordinating risk and control identification (and testing) across the end-to-end customer journey for the bank and embedded distribution partners.
- Perform and oversee risk assessments and maintain a robust divisional risk profile.
- For new embedded distribution partners, advise on and monitor compliance with design and distribution obligations, complaints management, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide training and guidance to embedded distribution partner organisations, ensuring they understand and implement risk and compliance requirements.
- Track and respond to risk events, incidents, and breaches both internally and across partner organisations.
- Working with stakeholders to set key risk indicators (KRIs), thresholds and triggers
- Performing obligation assessments and producing compliance plans
- Overseeing appropriate management of issues, incidents and associated action plans (working with stakeholders to log, allocate, track, prompt timely updates and escalate as required)
Do things differently with us
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Minimum 10 years in financial services with a strong understanding of operational risk and compliance in the financial services industry.
- Demonstrated experience in a Risk and Business Controls function, building and maintaining a robust control framework.
- Solid understanding of effective risk governance and reporting requirements for a financial institution.
- Deep understanding of design and distribution obligations, complaints compliance, and regulatory frameworks.
- Comfortable working in ambiguity and balancing commercial and regulatory priorities.
- Demonstrated senior stakeholder management experience and proven ability to influence senior stakeholders with professionalism, empathy, and clarity.
- Experience in both Retail Banking and Business Banking highly desirable.
