The Position:

The PTS Design Engineer II is responsible for the design, integration, and support of Panasonic Technical Services (PTS) engineering deliverables, including IFE racks, specialized tooling, and custom hardware solutions. This role involves interpreting requirements (aircraft, system, and other), developing mechanical and electrical designs, and collaborating across teams to ensure successful deployment and support.

Design and Documentation (45)

  • Interpret aircraft, system, and customer requirements to develop mechanical and electrical designs for IFE racks, specialized tooling, and custom hardware.
  • Create system block and wiring diagrams, concept drawings, and detailed engineering documentation using CAD and schematic tools.
  • Generate and process engineering change documentation (e.g., ECRs, ECOs, MCOs) and maintain revision control using approved PLM systems.
  • Release design, build, and maintenance documentation in accordance with engineering standards and version control requirements.

Production and Integration Support (15)

  • Support production activities, including coordination with planning and operations teams, material readiness, and hands-on involvement in assembly, integration, validation, and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Collaborate with technical staff to verify system functionality and readiness prior to delivery.
  • Support commissioning and field integration activities, including on-site testing and troubleshooting.

Project Execution and Task Management (15)

  • Manage assigned engineering tasks by maintaining clear ownership, tracking progress, and ensuring timely completion.
  • Prioritize work based on business impact and schedule dependencies; communicate delays or priority needs proactively.
  • Provide technical input for Statements of Work (SOWs), cost assessments, and design reviews.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Technical Support (15)

  • Liaise with engineering, operations, and customer support teams to ensure alignment with technical requirements and internal processes.
  • Serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting and issue resolution during design, build, and in-service phases.
  • Support in-service troubleshooting, repair, modification, and issue resolution, including on-site engagement where required.

Process and Operational Improvement (10)

  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering workflows, documentation quality, and delivery timelines.
  • Support the review and improvement of technical documentation, including engineering documentation, work instructions, and reference materials.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of process improvements and automation tools that enhance team efficiency and output quality.

The salary or hourly wage range of $80,000 – $134,000 is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical or electrical design, preferably within the aviation, aerospace, or IFE industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field is preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience producing and releasing engineering documentation using CAD and PLM tools.
  • Familiarity with aviation standards, aircraft systems, and technical publications is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical design principles, with experience interpreting aircraft wiring diagrams, schematics, and system-level requirements.
  • Proficiency in CAD and schematic design tools (e.g., Creo Parametric / Creo Schematics); capable of producing clear, accurate engineering documentation.
  • Familiarity with PLM systems and version control practices; experience with tools such as Windchill and Agile is preferred.
  • Knowledge of aviation technical publications standards and methods.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and system-level issues.
  • Effective project and task management skills; able to manage priorities, dependencies, and deadlines across multiple initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and collaborate across teams.
  • Self-driven with a high degree of initiative and ownership; able to work independently and contribute in a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of Linux-based systems and software loading processes relevant to IFE systems is a plus.
  • Up to 10% travel may be required to support on-site activities.
  • Working hour flexibility to support a global 24/7 organization.

  • Paid time off: Exempt Salaried employees receive flexible paid time off. This means that there is no fixed number, range, or limit to the amount of Personal and Vacation Days that may be taken for exempt employees. Non-exempt hourly employees accrue 14 vacation days per year + 7 sick days + 3 personal days. Accrual rate increases with tenure. All employees receive 11 company paid holidays per year. We also close our offices at the corporate level in the U.S. between Christmas and New Year. For operational positions that are expected to work on holidays, we provide additional compensation for hours worked.
