Newtown Savings Bank is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, multi-tasker to join our Loan Servicing Department as a Residential Lending Compliance Specialist. This position is responsible for ensuring the Bank adherence to the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) and Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) regulations. The role assists with residential mortgage compliance matters, analyzes data and ensures the supporting documentation is in the loan files, and prepares and maintains daily and monthly reports for management, as well as Key Performance metric reports. This is an onsite opportunity at our Corporate office in Newtown, CT. The role has a remote option of one day per week.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complete the HMDA review of all Residential and applicable Commercial loans, both originated and non-originated. Document and ensure the accuracy of the HMDA data fields. Identify errors and address issues across various loan areas, providing corrective actions and training as needed.
- Review documentation to ensure all -supporting documentation is in the appropriate -location to support the data integrity.
- Assist with identifying and documenting Community Development Loans for the annual CRA submission.
- Adhere to Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (Regulation C) and Community Reinvestment Act (Regulation BB) compliance regulations and stay abreast of any upcoming changes to the regulations. Update procedures and processes, as necessary.
- Accountable for conducting quarterly HMDA and CRA quality checks and submitting the LAR spreadsheets to management with one month following the end of each quarter.
- Provide quarterly exception reports to management.
- Complete a prior month Encompass export of HMDA data files for upload to HMDA Wiz.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual HMDA Loan Register (LAR) and Community Reinvestment Act (CRA LAR). Submit the LAR with assistance from the FVP, Loan Servicing Manager.
- Maintain files of all non-originated commercial loans, archiving them annually or as necessary.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Assists sales and operations staff with real-time solutions for compliance questions, scenarios, and loan-level issues.
- Assists in research to help resolve Mavent issues and fails including, but not limited to, ATR/QM, TILA-RESPA, HMDA, ECOA, state and federal laws, pricing, and NMLS
- Assists in compliance monitoring for residential lending origination and loan servicing business lines, as needed.
- Assist in researching compliance questions/issues and provide guidance on interpretation of the regulation
- Responsible for the daily Index Rate changes in INSIGHT.
- Monthly complete a Customer Due Diligence (CDD) questionnaire for new loan-only relationships in Verafin.
- Complete Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports assigned.
- Provide assistance to Loan Servicing as needed, ensuring collaboration and support across teams to meet organizational goals.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- College degree with 1-2 years of related experience preferred or a High School diploma with 4 years of related experience.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing HMDA and CRA compliance and other regulations (e.g., Reg Z, RESPA, ECOA) is helpful.
- Must have strong attention to details, analytical skills and highly organized.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment with a strong sense of urgency and responsiveness.
- Must possess a good understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word and be able to adapt to other software applications.
